Hi everybody, my first post here, don't throw rocks at me :pirate2:

I've seen the Windows Vista and MacOS-X. I was thinking that maybe moving to MacOS could be good. So I started to search for information and found this page + wiki. All I've understood is, that it "should" work on my classic PC.

But please clear my mind up, questions come:

1. I'm using EPoX Motherboard (not found with supported vendors) with AMD 3000+ 64 CPU (supported) , Nvidia 7600 (not supported) => is there any chance that I could run a Mac OS on it? (nope, not a miniMac or how they're called :D )

2. Most of the time I spend in work and all I ever need to run on my PC actually is Eclipse/VS.Net (anything where I can develop PHP), MS Office (already got that for MacOS - but am not sure wether it works ^^) and World of Warcraft :D (yeah I'm an addict, but it works on Mac :P )

3. Found that the "kernel" of Mac OS is free. W00t? in the sticky post it's said that it's illegal ... So what can I download? Any tips&tricks?

4. Imagine, I'd somehow miraceously get my hands on 10.4.8 Mac OS x86 (does it already exist? (found some blog stating that yes!) ) Would I be able to run it on my Venice-cored Athlon 64 (SSE3 support included -> <3 AMD :) ) , with my PCI-Ex VGA card some old ATAdrives and on the EPoX MoBo ?

It's just that I've seen the frustration my friend got after installing *original* Windows Vista on a notebook with 3.5GHz CPU and 2GB RAM!!! Booting 5minutes, then running chkdsk and freeze? I mean, it did take me a while till I moved on from Windows 2000 SP4 to WinXP because some of the "features" of WinXP, and I really don't believe that switching to WinVista would satisfy me. I was trying Linux, but no-go  The time of desperation came with Vista... The WoW is already here for 5 years, but I can't use it :D

hey neosk,

I'm a bit of a MacOSX86 noob aswell. But I can assure you that:

- WoW works! just put your CD in the drive and it will recognise it, install, patch up and your done. Works pretty fast to, good FPS.

- Office 2004 works perfectly here to!

- I downloaded xcode-> developer app from Apple, dunno if it is useable for PHP but hey, there should be enough other tools out there for it.

- I have a 7950GT Nvidia and it works great, I think so should your card:)

Your CPU should work, dunno about your motherboard, what chipset does it have?

Get it from www.thepiratebay.com, type in JaS 10.4.8 or just browse the mac section for other releases.

Regards

Thanks jporter :P Just downloading, hopefully it'll go

JaS: the motherboard is EPoX 9NPA+ Ultra - http://www.epox.com.tw/eng/products_content.php?ps=335

Chipset is nforce4 Ultra, I'll check the ATA driver on it, but I believe epox is a little hi-end , so it *might* work. Thanks guys. This will be a different weekend at last ;)

np m8!

nforce4 ata should work straight out of the box, at least it did on mine and lots of others, sata nforce4 check this out:

ok so I've been trying MacOS in VmWare 5.5 with both IDE and SCSI HDD setup

I've ended on booting the setup process

this is a screenshot of the frozen boot - might be that the vmware virtual IDE (or SCSI) interface is not compatible with ?

Then the boot process stopped for a while also on the message:

ACPI: Button driver prevents system sleep

hm dunno ... some strange checks going on there ?
