JasonMillerLimited
I have a problem, and can not find a solution for it. The problem is that when I try to do anything that requires 3D Acceleration, it displays things all good for a while, then it starts developing red specs and other random things, then the screen just stops, mouse does not respond. Sound still goes. My system specs are as fellows AMD X2 4400MHZ ATI Radeon X1600 256MB 1.5GB RAM Thanks Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/42441-ati-radeon-x1600-256mb/ Share on other sites
Purple Puppy
Red specs and random things are usually characteristic of overheating. Make sure that OSX has got the fan working. Thanks for that, have taken the side off the computer and put a fan blowing into it to see if it was that, and it still does it. Do you have any other ideas? manga303
I have the same problem my mac os x86 runs 100% fine, i have audio, all appz are working fine.. The first time i see this problem as i start world of warcraft ! I set all to minimum and play window mode... after some time dots appear and all system crashes. Then later i work with iMovie HD and after using Quartz effects (4-5 Minutes without break) i had the same dots appearing on the screen till i work with a "normal" effect and all was away.... I know from PC that such dots can be a reason because of overclocking and/or heat problems... i did not overclock anything on my pc and the cooler is working on the grafik card.... hmmm just strange when i work with quartz effects it seems to overkill my grafik card... or a driver problem ? but video divx and all things are working normal. I patch allready Nati Util 1.0 same problems as before... maybe a way to "underclock" the grafik card under mac os ? Scrizz
this is definately heat related, I had a similar problem in windows when my GPU fan broke (ie little dots, then freeze) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/42441-ati-radeon-x1600-256mb/#findComment-390813 Share on other sites
