zhta1972
Hi , the installation has done really smoth at a Sony Vaio FS-415M . The system boots ok , plays the welcome music (so soundcard working), touchpad working , Lan card , firewire ... All ok !! (I checked all with the dvd's utilities ) The screen and picture (and only this , all other works still !!! i can listen the music and then voice over starts) , is frozen and the last line say : localhost /System/Library/CoreServices/Loginwindow.app/Contents/MacOS/Loginwindow:Main Window Application Started . Some lines upper there are 3 error messeges : 1 : a link/load error occured for kernel extension /System/Library/Extensions/nvdanv40hal.kext 2 : a link/load error occured for kernel extension /System/Library/Extensions/IOPlatformPluginFamily.kext 3 : a link/load error occured for kernel extension /System/Library/Extensions/GeForce.kext I think that the VGA card is the only "frozen" device , the model of the vga is : NVIDIA GeForce Go 6400 .... All others works , i can navigate to the voice over's menus throu the arrows ..... I tried to connect a momitor at the VGA connector of the VAIO , the same screen there , frozen at last line too . I dont know how to install the macvidia drivers , because i cant use the graphical interface (any suggestions doing it with the terminal ?) What else you think the problem is ? Thank you for your time .... Also lots of credits goes to all theese involved to bring us this special OS to our cheap , home pc's .... you ROCK ! e-rick
Could you tell me which installation you're using? This is important. IF you used a 10.4.8 install DVD then you should try copying Natit/Titan/NvidiaEFI (choose one) into your kext folder. repair permissions and reboot. You can repair permissions by booting in single user mode (-s) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/42338-nvdanv40halkext-serius-problem/#findComment-302615 Share on other sites

geez
I'm getting this behaviour too running a GeForce4 MX 420 in a Dell Optiplex 260. Starting with F8 held down and typing -v at the boot prompt to get the console up tells me lots of interesting things - the last few of which are: "Titan: Found NVIDIA GeForce420" "NVDA::start(display)<1>" "NVDA::start(display)<1> failed" "kextd[25]: kextd_watch_volumes: couldn't set up diskarb sessions" "No Airport Drivers found" "/System/Library/CoreServices/loginwindow.app/Contents/MacOS/loginwindow: Login Window Application Started" ...and then it stops and I have to reboot. Interestingly, typing -x at the boot prompt instead of -v does not take me into safe mode (as far as I can tell... I was expecting the grey screen with the Apple logo and the spinning progress to also say 'Safe mode' or something. But it doesn't). If I don't boot using -x (and so, therefore, don't see the console and everything is graphical), I just get a kernel panic (I assume this is what happens when the login window tries to open, although of course you can't tell what its trying to do if you're booting graphically and not in console mode!). Also interestingly, booting in console mode hangs at this point, but doesn't kernel panic, as far as I know. Oh, and I'm using a similar DVD distro as the OP - except this is a 10.4.8 JAS DVD Edited February 15, 2007 by CraigP Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/42338-nvdanv40halkext-serius-problem/#findComment-303751 Share on other sites
geez
I have since also reinstalled and not applied the Titan graphics card drivers during the OS X install. I get to the same place. I have also dropped back to using the on board graphics card (whatever it may be!), and the installation still gets to the same place - although it doesn't kernel panic any more, it just freezes.
