V3RT1G0
i installed mac os x with the JaS 10.4.8 disk with sempthex's kernel and it went fine... just a few things after the install arent working... well one is my sigmatel 9200... yes i kno it doesnt work till now... the new Apple HDA patcher can fix it for me supposedly according to this post (http://neonkoala.co.uk/content/view/35/1/) so i tried to run the patcher that i got form here and it asked me for me password to edit the OS setting... so i put it in correctly and it just crashes on me! i dont kno why but as soon as i press eter for pass it pops up a little graphic saying to hold my poeer button to restart and the whole background OS is frozen... i have no idea why i cant run! i have the new kernel im sure (8.8.1) by semthex. my other problem is that i have a usb wifi card that i got from dell for my windows of course... its the dell 1450 wireless usb adapter and i searched around the forums and found out that someone patched the kext or w/e and got it to work... well for one i dont kno what kext is and i dont kno how to edit it lol... so some help would be appeciated. and my final question is how do i install apps? i downloaded firefox on my mac and it was a dmg file... i ran it but did it install it? im not sure lol... and then i downloaded winrar and it was a tar file so i un compressed it and it threw a folder out... what do i do? sorry for being a noob but ive been on windows all this time Edited February 14, 2007 by V3RT1G0 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/42294-a-few-problems/ Share on other sites

juunbug
OK, V3RT1G0, first thing first. You must search before you post, many of your answers are on the forum already, but I will do what I can to help. First I cannot help you with your ATI or WiFi issue, you will have to find those yourself, as I have neither in my rig, but you are in the right forum. As far as installs are concerned, heres a basic rundown: -First: download file. -Second: if it is zipped or compressed, extract it. (stuffit is the app of choice). -Third: once it is extracted it is almost always a .dmg file, click on it, it is a self mounting disk image file. -Fourth: with the .dmg clicked, you should now have a new icon on the right side of your desktop, it is the mounted image. Double click on it. -Fifth: now with the image selected a finder window will pop up. It should have the contents of the program you downloaded. -Five and 13/27ths: Mac program installs work like this, you almost always drag the folder, or icon, that pops up in the finder window to your application folder, it will usually tell you, sometimes not. Firefox for example has an icon, just click and drag to your applications folder and voila, its installed. Check your application folder now for the program to verify. here is a basic screenshot example of firefox'x install. Hopefully this helps. Ferret-Simpson
Here's an idea, buy the officially supported one from the Apple Store. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/42294-a-few-problems/#findComment-304513 Share on other sites
