Midi through the Game port

Hi, i am a "happy" Hackintosh user. Managed to get everything working, surpassed all major issues (enabling QE/CI on my FX5200, cable plug/unplug issue for the network adapter, and some minor glitches). All these are working, so i'm not asking about these.

What i want to know is : Is there a way to have MIDI through the standard Game port? This is actually the latest (and biggest) issue, since i initially considered switching to Mac to give GarageBand a try, and some other audio related stuff that brought fame to the Mac systems.

I undoubtly need the Midi to work through the Game port, since getting a USB controller is not an option (i have my trusty Korg Triton Pro88 at hand).

Thanks in advance for you support. Hoping for a positive reply :D

it seems i might have forgotten to specify the onboard audio configuration my mobo has :

it's a Gigabyte 8KNXP board (i975 + ICH5 chipsets). Integrated audio codec is Ac'97 (Realtek658), and the audio part works ok right out of the box (JaS 10.4.8_Intel_Amd_SSE2_SSE3 patched version), although in the "about this Mac" screen it shows as if no audio card is detected...

Please help :afro:

Hi there buddy,

I also had the same issues as yourself, i tried to no avail to get the onboard midi port working, as a last resort it was either to purchase a new sound card supported by osx or a usb to midi adapter, i opted for the later and was surprized how good it works, latency is minimal and beings that im in spain thought it may be difficult to buy one here but got one same day form my local music shop. Works well with garage band and reason from my korg Trinity. the units a edirol um2x 1 In and 2 out cost 50 euros about 30 quid UK. think thats your cheapest option.

hey, thanks for the reply.

I already have a Midiman Uno (midi2usb cable), but i experienced a lot of problems with it under the WinXP envinronment(Programs crashing - Cubase, Sonar, you name it), so i figured it would be the same in the OS X...actually even forgot i had it :D .

Gonna give it a try now.

L.E - tried it, and it's being detected all right...but i have the same issues like under windows.

Also, i saw that the audio system is not detected in the "about this mac" screen. But, the sound card is working - iTunes, and the movie players, they all have sound. Also, Digital Performer says something about Core Audio not being available. Could this be a problem of the sound card not being detected/installed correctly?

Waiting for a helping hand, as this is the only remaining issue that keeps me away from giving up WinXP completely ;)

thanks, but as i've said in the first post, i have a pretty good keyboard, with full keyboard set, hammer action, and many features that i would not give up for some cheap controller. i give it two more days, and then it's back to windows :thumbsup_anim:
