keggers
Alrighty, I'm a little stuck on this one. The install goes just fine no problems at all, after reboot the grey screen and wheel do there thing and just when I think it's about to turn blue and continue on the display output cuts out. I've tried on the other output on my video card (9600 AIW) I tried the mikfi kernel, -v -x etc but no go. Any ideas as to what this might be? Did you install one of the video card packages in the install? Also, does it seem like your computer has crashed or does it seem like it is working, just you can't see anything. I'm guessing video card driver problem. What's the rest your specs and what'd you install? keggers
I don't think I installed one of the video card packages. The system is an sis based p4. I disabled my sata but to no avail. I think it is running, there's just no display. keggers
Sorry but I gotta bump this up. Is there anyone else who's run across this? It seems really weird that it just shuts the display right off? I think it is running, there's just no display. Did you customize the install to ONLY install the drivers for the video card you have installed in the machine? That is, I had the same problem and it turned out that I never 'unchecked' all of the drivers for (for example) ATI video cards, Intel integrated video cards, etc. . . (I had an Nvidia card in my machine). Upon reinstalling Jas 10.4.8 with ppf1 applied, the install (and video) went swimmingly. Good luck to you! craigolio
What I had (embarrassingly) not realized during the first 25 installation attempts was that one could click on those little tiny triangles on the left to 'expand' the options. So when installing from the JaS 10.4.8 DVD, and it showed that I was installing, for example the "Support for most common Hardware" option. But I didn't know that by expanding that group, there were a BUNCH of different kexts being installed that I did not need, and those kexts were apparently screing up my install. I attribute that to having never played with a Mac before. So I re-installed making certain to ONLY install the options that DIRECTLY related to my hardware. I still had some problems post-install: I had to work a while to get my wireless working, I had to fix ethernet, and I had to fix sound. But I was so happy to have working video (with QE/CI supported) that it did not matter to me!! I wondered to myself whether there were others who had made the same mistake. I am not a computer 'newbie', yet I made that mistake over and over and over again!! I hope my stupidity can help someone else have fun with OSX! Again, Good luck!
