Hi,

I installed JaS 10.4.8 (Image: OSX universal install 10.4.8.JAS AMD.Intel.SSE2.SSE3 kernel Semthex Beta9.iso) on my Intel sse2 machine. Installation went just fine, but now the os won't boot at all.

It just gets stuck when trying to boot from HD, without writing anything on the screen (I can still see the BIOS data table that appears before the os starts).

I had deadmoo 10.4.1 on this computer/hd before, and it worked just fine.

Specs:

VIA mb p4pb266e

Intel 2.4ghz sse2 cpu

640mb ddr sdram

Any idea?

Thanks!!

Yes, you need to use disk utility on the install dvd to partition the drive, then install os x.There is a bug with disk utility that if you pick the erase option it will erase your partition as GUID, but partitioning the drive will use MBR and the system will boot.Good luck

Please, I need your help JaS, I actually deleted all the partitions in a disk because of that bug you talk about. What can I do now? In that disk I had a NTFS partition with data (not OS), 2 Linux ext3 partitions (and a SWAP partition), and another one with NTFS which I wanted to delete with the disk utility.

EDIT: Nevermind, I tried some MBR recovery software and fortunately I could restore things to normal. I hope I am more lucky the next time I try to install MacOS x86! :thumbsup_anim:

BTW, what should I do to avoid this problem from happening again?

I tried this, but it didn't work for me. The Mac partition still doesn't boot. It gives me a black blank screen with just a flickering " _ ". The only way to access OS X is by booting from the installation disc's darwin. Help!!!

I too have been having these problems but for me I patched my 10.4.8 and then during the install I created a partition and went with the default format which fixed my initial boot problem. However, now when it boots from hard drive it initially gives me the white back ground with a Grey apple logo while it try's to load then after a few seconds the back ground goes dark Grey and then in the middle is a black box with White text that reads:

"You need to restart your computer. Hold down the Power button for several seconds or press the Restart button."

All this does though is run a loop as the next time it boots up it just repeats.

I have installed this on an older Compaq Evo desktop with a 1 GHz processor and about 700 megs of ram. Not sure on the rest of the specs, but nothing fancy on this box. Any help would be appreciated.

**UPDATE** Ok, first there is a seperate thread that discusses this: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...=40971&st=0

Based on what I was reading, I reinstalled but this time did not install any video stuff, no NVIDIA and no ATI. I pretty much only installed that which was a must, and even unchecked some of the printers, all the language translations, and no fonts, and not even common hardware. When it got done installing everything was working. I only have a couple of probs, one being my wireless pci adapter not working (probably had nothing to do with the install) and minor video problem. when I move a application window around it gets all distorted and I have to minimize the window then reexpand the window and then every thing works just fine. I suspect that is directly related to not installing any nvidia or ati drivers, but will have to trouble shoot that later.
