jclarke72
After messing with VMware trying to get osx on my $400 compaq lappy from wal-mart I got the 10.4.8amdfinal from tubgirl popped the dvd in and it booted to install no vmware needed. Keeping my fingers crossed it reboots ok. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/41692-compaq-v5000-osx86/ Share on other sites
errandwolfe
Not really sure if you are asking a question here or not, but here are a few words of advice. 1. Use the final JaS 10.4.8 release, that has the most supported hardware of any release I have seen. Loaded perfectly on my V5101US Compaq. 2. Be aware of the video card you have. If yours is one of the lovely systems with an ATI x200 you can pretty much give up all hope of having QE/CI (accelerated video) enabled. 3. Is your hard drive PATA or SATA as there are different packages you may need to install. jclarke72
Well I was hoping it was a statement. Unfortunately upon reboot it hangs after it can't find the airport driver. I have the v5305wm I have upgraded the processor to a ml-34 Turion 1.8ghz and 1ghz ram a 100gb Seagate ultra ata/100 the video is a ati x200. I can't figure out why I am so close. It installed native with no problems just won't make it all the way to the GUI when booting. Any ideas? Thanks. Did yours just work native? I'm trying tubgirl 10.4.8 amd final. errandwolfe
Yes, mine did a very good job of working native...AFTER I used the final JaS 10.4.8 DVD. I used the AMD 10.4.8 PPF1 and PPF2, but was not happy with the amount of work I needed to do to get OS X running. When JaS released his final 10.4.8 I decided to give it a try. Worked much better then the previous releases with almost everything working out of the box. I think the only major change I made was adding Katana for resolution changes on the x200. As for QE/CI....forget about it for now. There is no way to get it working until someone with the proper skills creates a new kext for it. I have to have the install disk in the drive or I get mbr errors. I will have to work on that and getting my wireless to work. I was about to give up till I got your post. Thanks. The reason it wasn't working with tubgirl is because it was trying to load the x1100 drivers. I reinstalled without them and nvidia and it booted right up.
