osxhtpc
Still have not found a solution to this problem. The DVD boots fine. When it comes to disk utility format it does not see the hardrive. Somebody help. Check out my Notebook book specs in previous posts. how do i load a kext during the boot process. I might be missing AppleVIATA.kext file. WolfNM
Same Problem here, I'm running a Intel D101ggc, some say it works, some say it doesn't. Well anyway I can boot, the installation goes to a next leve, and when I try to "re-format" there is no HDD to re-format, it's missing. I don't know if it is my SATA or it is something else, I'll keep searching , if I find anything I'll tell you guys. applenoob
I'm having the same problem on a hp dv9000. I'm going to try another version and use the ppf patch I also got.

If that doesn't work I guess I'll have to find a copy of VMware Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/41652-hard-drive-invisible-during-install/page/2/#findComment-330383 Share on other sites
osxhtpc
Managed to boot off my ipod 6gb successfully hoping that OS X will see the hardrive. It still does not. I have no idea what kind of chipset this is. Acer Aspire 5100-5945 ATI Radeon Express 1100. used every kind of patch available. I don't know if this is a new problem, or there is a fix for this. I tried formatting a 6GB drive under windows as fat 32 os x installer does not see it. used acronis to format as id=af Shag OS swap, still no go. osxhtpc
I think I might know what it is. wolfNM you have the ATI radeon express 200 chipset, same as mine. Os x has no drivers for this chipset. however i heard somebody is working on it. i wonder if applenoob has the same chipset. I am going to check. No he has a geforce chipset 430. ati and amd are the same company now. that is why there are lappies with these combination cpu and video cards. I am going to do a search in the forums for radeon chipsets. i did manage to get wifi working. i just don't want to boot off my ipod anymore. applenoob
Yes I have a geforce chipset, but I got it all working. The first install I tried was 10.4.2 or 3 which I didn't realize! doh I have since got the 10.4.8 which saw my drives and I was able to install without any problems Now I just need to get the sound working, and hopefully the wireless Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/41652-hard-drive-invisible-during-install/page/2/#findComment-333286 Share on other sites
osxhtpc
Hey applenoob Which version of 10.4.8 did you get. I must have tried all of them. Can you be a little more specific. i got my wireless working. what kind of wireless do you have. mine is Atheros 5005 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/41652-hard-drive-invisible-during-install/page/2/#findComment-333302 Share on other sites
applenoob
I used 10.4.8 JaS AMD-Intel-SSE2-SSE3 with PPF1 and it saw my SATA drives no problem. THANKS JAS! I really am an applenoob:) but from what I can gather its the "with PPF1 part that matters, otherwise you'll need the patch. osxhtpc
sorry applenoob I did not quite get that. all i understood was "with PPF1". Is that all that matters I managed to get SATA working by editing the AppleVIAATA.kext file. the only problem is that it is booted off my ipod. I need to get this file on the Install DVd somehow, so that the installer can see the drives. does anybody know how to do this? Has it been done before? osxhtpc
Just an update on progress here. I downloaded Jas 10.4.8 for X200m chipset. Booted fine, but I still cannot see hardrive to install in disk utility. I installed with vmware method, got my hardrive briefly recognized. I made a copy of the AppleVIAATA.kext to my desktop and edited it by adding my vendor and hardware id's it worked. I then copied the edited kext back to my system/library/extensions folder. Rebooted and now I get this error localhost :/root# it says something about only being in single user mode. what do I do now ? Why is my hardrive not seen by the install disc or disk utility after trying almost all of the install DVD's? fry
I am currently trying to install jas 10.4.8 on my computer and have created a fat 32 partition to delete and turn into a mac extended partition, but unfortunately when I enter the disk utility to modify the fat 32 partition my hard drive is not there. All I am able to see through the Disk Utility is my cd rom drive and the disk that I am using to install mac os x. In addition to this nothing shows up where you "Select Destination". Here are my system specs: Amd Athlon 64x2 64 bit 4200 Asus m2n-sli deluxe Segate 320Gb SATA II and I think that's all that's important... I have searched for incompadibilities when using a SATA II hard drive and as far as I have been able to see it should be fine, but that's the only thing that I could think of that could cause it to not show up. Anyone have any ideas? Yes instal it in a ide drive, put your sata drive in the 3239, the other sata controler of the m2n32 mobo, then clone your partition to the sata drive. repair permissions it woks perfect for me just a little error at star, and then OS X...... same config. good luck Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/41652-hard-drive-invisible-during-install/page/2/#findComment-347804 Share on other sites

DirtBikeDude
Installing 10.4.6.install.dvd(Jas) well guys having same problem, the disk utility will just not find the sata hard drive. The drive is only 80gb and im running out of room quick with windows anyways. I was wondering if i could install/boot mac if i bought an external usb drive and boot windows from the internal drive? I would consider a firewire drive but computer does not have firewire.
