killboredom
Ok, I have a P5N-E SLI mobo (650i) and Jas 10.4.8 SSE2 AMD INTEL beta2 (which actually appears to be 10.4.7). First off I rebooted and attempted to install and realized that 1) my keyboard wasn't recognized connected to PS/2 and 2) my SATA drives weren't recognized. To get around this, I switched to a USB keyboard and shrunk my IDE drive to "unallocated space" in Vista. After doing that, when I booted the OS X install DVD, I still wasn't able to see my drive as an install option. I chose Disk Utility, which did show me the whole IDE drive, not just the unallocated space from Vista's shrink, so I formatted it as Mac Journalled and went back through the install process. The install goes flawlessly up to the point of rebooting. When it reboots, it goes black and hangs at "MACH REBOOT." At this point, I am unable to boot in to the OS X install (always boots to Vista on my SATA) on the IDE drive. Here's what all I have tried: 1) Copy chain0 from OS X DVD to C:\ (root of Vista boot drive), use bcdedit to add Mac OS X to point to chain0 (this step was confusing to me as I was uncertain of which GUID to enter...not sure i entered correct one. Gives Chain0 Error. 2) Boot OS X DVD to F8 -s and run FDISK to set active partition to OS X. Does nothing for me. 3) Boot off Hiren's BootCD and go through Fdisk & eXtender FDisk steps. Does nothing for me. 4) Set boot priority in BIOS to IDE HD first. (Hung the first time, booted Vista the second) So, I'm fairly confident that I have a good install of Mac OS X on my IDE drive as the install ran flawlessly. My issue here is that I can't seem to get the pesky IDE drive to boot. I've never seen the Darwin bootloader without using the DVD. My Mac OS X option in the Vista boot screen gives me the "Chain0 booting error." eXtender Fdisk doesn't give me a boot menu. I'm at a loss. Suggestions? Could this simply be a result of my MBD not working for this? Thanks in advance! killboredom
Seven views and no advice? If it makes a difference, I sincerely do need help and would appreciate it My plan right now is to try and dual-boot Ubuntu 6.10 with Vista and then use GRUB to point to OS X. Hope that works Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/41571-asus-p5n-1048-on-ide-hd-dual-boot-with-vistano-boot/#findComment-297525 Share on other sites

It seems your pc trying to boot Mac osx since it goes black and hangs at "Mach Reboot". This means that your mac partition is active at this movement. Then you should not be able to boot in to Vista at this time. How you can copy chain0 under Vista and use BCDEDIT command? >>>If after your mac installation, your pc tried to boot mac but failed, Then your mac installation has problem If after your mac installation, your pc tried to boot vista but failed, then use Vista DVD to recover vista boot first. At this point, I am unable to boot in to the OS X install (always boots to Vista on my SATA) on the IDE drive.
