alfio
hi all i'm interested in trying to run OSX on my thinkpad T43. i have a few questions i've not been able to resolve through my searches on this forum. 1) are the OSX.iso files the only way to install OSX? we own a mac mini that came with OSX 10.4.6, would that be of any use (either practically or legally)? 2) are there any specific T43 experiences? i've read through the OSX forum on thinkpads.com but i wasn't able to find a write up that specifically addressed this machine. i'm interested in knowing what will work/what won't thanks. your collective patience is appreciated alfio Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/41521-osx-on-thinkpad-t43-noob/ Share on other sites

patwarn
A fellow n00b here... I've got a T43 much like yours, but with the 15" screen. I tried to install from the JaS 10.4.8, and was able to boot into OS X from the DVD, ran Disk Utility to set up the drive, ran the installer (custom with the intel and extra hardware support). The install seemed to go fine, but the computer won't boot. I get past the IBM splash screen and then everything just stops. The hdd light does not flash, which makes me think the drive isn't being seen. While booted off the DVD I also ran System Profile and notice that the wireless mini-pci card isn't seen. I remember reading that the T43 is a bit of an odd duck in that it has a PATA drive, but there is some sort of bridge and the system sees the drive as a SATA drive. Any one else know how to get a T43 to work with OS X? Any one else know how to get a T43 to work with OS X? I've tried it on T40 and had the same issue with 10.4.8 so I went back to earlier versions of osx with success: * try v10.4.6 (10.4.7 was not able to boot as well as 10.4.8 - same issue as you mentioned above) * install Jas 10.4.7 update onto your working 10.4.6 system - works * I installed 10.4.8 update... not working so I'm satisfied with 10.4.7 (on T40) * hope it will work for your T43 also experiences: bluetooth ok LAN ok usb ok trackpoint ok audio ok wlan: not ok unfortunately (I have intel 2100) but for T43 (2200BG) there is a solution, lucky you...: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=34071 and http://code.google.com/p/iwidarwin/ vga: firsty I had only 1024x768 but with callisto_b003 I have 1400x1050 (nice!) more info: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=34068 üdv, Tamas Edited February 10, 2007 by ttorok Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/41521-osx-on-thinkpad-t43-noob/#findComment-299197 Share on other sites

patwarn
Well My T43 is almost there. I did new clean install of 10.4.6, and the install went well, but I was still unable to boot, getting a "b0 error". Looked around the forums and found that I needed to run fdisk and make the partition active. That worked and I updated to 10.4.7 with no problems. Next I tried to update the graphics driver (ATI x300 Mobility, 15" 1400x1050 screen) with the ATIScript linked to in an earlier post. That worked sort of. I was only able to get a single resolution and the screen was very slow. I undid that and did some more looking and was able to find the Katana2C installer, which worked well and I know am able to use the Display pref pane to choose any of the normal supported resolutions and color depths. I also found some notes about command line voodoo for enabling and disabling BeamSync and Quartz2DExtreame. Not sure if they helped but so far they haven't hurt. (I've been a Mac user since 1987 and to be honest I've never heard of BeamSync let alone know what it does...) Next I enabled the Broadcom wired network using AppleBCM5751Ethernet.kext which worked without a problem. I also was able to enable my Intel Pro 2195 ABG wireless card with the iwi2000.kext, but that took two trys, not sure what I did to make it work the second time. Finally, I found a thread about ACPI and the power manager. I installed a kext for it and OS X now sees my T43's battery and will go to sleep when the lid shuts. Unfortunetly, the screen does not come back on when it wakes up, so that is on the todo list. I'm also getting random and strange messages about USB devices pulling to much power and being shut down, even though I've got no USB devices attached. Not sure what that is about, but it is on the todo list also. peterblood
I also run OSx86 on a T43, and everything works, except ATI card - I'm able to switch resolution using Callisto, but no QE or CI, and the infrared port. I'm running JaS 10.4.8 AMD/Intel. I had to fix the mac address on Broadcom nic with SetMac tweak.
