bliss
Hi! Im happy atm with osx and windows. osx86 is my primary system. i do internet, creative stuff, dvd, musik and so on. Windows is only for gaming (games that dont run osx86 like hl2 or gothic 3.i share my file between win and osx on a hfs+ partition, accessing under windows with macdrive. Now im starting an apprenticeship and i need to use linux for coding etc. How can i partition best for the following configuration? i have 2 drives. one 160 gb sata and one 300 gb sata (faster) for now im using the 160 for osx, windows and music, the 300 gb for files, videos, games etc. so i need: 1 partition ntfs or fat32 for windows xp 1 partition for osx 6 partitions for linux (swap, /boot, /, /var, /tmp, /home) running gentoo 1 partition for all my files, games, music and stuff... what filesystem would be best to share with all os? ntfs? ext2 or hfs+? need 4gb+ filesystem so fat32 is out. step by step i want to move from osx86 to linux, because im going to get a macbook next time and run osx legally and then the macbook will be for movies music, surfing and so on and the pc is only for gaming and coding linux. oh and im using the gparted livecd so i have to format hfs+ with diskutil on osx86 install. macgirl
So if you need more than 4Gigs is NTFS but there is a solution to read/write here: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=38920 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/41302-re-organize-my-system/#findComment-295863 Share on other sites
goodoporn
Use the 160 for your oses. Just make sure windows is in NTFS because you will be sorely disappointed with fat32. dvornik
I think a shared partition is a real problem. I've read Linux utilities are unreliable for writing to NTFS. Maybe some network storage would be better. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/41302-re-organize-my-system/#findComment-296067 Share on other sites
macgirl
FUSE can also be used on Linux. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/41302-re-organize-my-system/#findComment-296511 Share on other sites
