I`ve spent my week one on a vista/macos dualboot machine, but there is a thing that makes me go back to vista periodicaly - 5.1 sound.

I have a following setup:

1,8 core2duo, oc`ed to 3,2

Gigabyte DS3 mobo

Nvidia 7800GTX board

Jas 10.4.8 + v1p patch + pion DS3 patch v1.2

I managed to get the HDA sound working using drivers for hda 883 chip, and it even lets me create an Aggregate device, select multichannel output and test all speakers. But when I open iTunes or VLC and start playing some music only 2 front speakers work if Aggregate device is selected as output device.

I thought, maybe there is some problem with the kext for 883 sound chip my mobo has, so I`ve got an external cmedia 7.1 usb sound card. It was detected easily. OS even lets me set it up as a multichannel device and test every channel. But again itunes and VLC only use two front speakers, not all of them.

I figured out, that when I set up a Multichannel sound in Audio MIDI Setup panel and then close it, in next launch it shows stereo selected, not multichannel. Yes, I did click Apply, multiple times. It just resets to Stereo after I close Audio MIDI Setup. What can it be? A kernel bug?

Maybe there is a checkbox like "distribute 2-channel sound to all speakers" or something? Am I doing something wrong?
