Hey there guys,

I have a Toshiba 42HP66 42" Plasma HDTV, and it has a 2 HDMI inputs or a VGA input. I was wondering what would be the best way to connect my Mac Pro Quad 3.0GHz, since there is no DVI input on my TV, should I get a DVI to HDMI cable or just use the DVI to VGA cable that comes with the Mac Pro? I also heard from the toolbox at Best Buy (who was desperately trying to sell me an extended warantee for over 20 mins) that "plasmas are not meant to be used as computer monitors, you're going to burn out the screen". Now I don't intend on using it for surfing the net, or word processing, but it would be nice to play Warcraft on, watch videos from iTunes, or have the extra room when editing in garageband or logic. What do you guys think?

many thanks!!! :(

since HDMI is DVI+DigitalSound+HDCP it's better to get a dvi+sound->hdmi cable. with that, the signal doesn't need to be converted to analog vga so you'll get better quality. also, you will get multichannel sound

About 'burning' the plasma, AFAIK plasmas are more easily affected by static pictures so don't forget the screensaver and you are all done. I have one at home and that's what I do when I connect my macbook to it (I have also the vga or hdmi problem)

Thanks NeSuKuN

I figured that the "burnout" issue wouldn't be a problem, but it always helps to ask someone who knows more than I do about it. Do you think that this is the kind of cable I'm looking for?
