agrafuese
Hello everyone! I have been happily running 10.4.8 on my PC for 2 months now without any troubles (aside from the natural software incompatibilities associated with x86 systems *ugh*). There are many topics here in the x86 forums regarding installation and hardware compatibility and all that stuff, but for the rest of us that have our systems running fine, there's the next step: UPDATES! Even though my system is running without a hitch, I'd like to take advantage of Apple's updates. However, the first time I ever tried updating (I believe it was a Quicktime update) my whole OS died and I was forced to re-install. So since then, I've avoided updates like the plague, even though some might be safe to install. Anyway, the question is - what do we do? Wait for JaS to release patches? Have they released any post-install PPFs? Is there any way of patching ourselves? Also, here is a list of the updates that have been available to me that I've avoided installing for fear of killing my system. If anyone could tell me which ones are "safe" (if any) that would be great: Quicktime 7.1.3 iChat Update Security Update 2006-007 (intel) Security Update 2006-008 (universal) If anyone could shed some light on this topic, it would be much appreciated. I'm almost positive that this has been discussed somewhere, but I have yet to find a thread dedicated to this topic, so perhaps this will be the first. Or perhaps there is one buried somewhere that someone can point us to? psionic68
Be careful of a new update which came out today/yesterday: Security update for Airport Extreme (or something). I ended up losing WiFi and had to copy IO80211Family.kext from an earlier install to get the wireless icon (diamond) back and operational. sandman32
Can you point me towards the fix that myzar made? I busted my finder after update. Edit: Nevermind, if you happen upon this post trying to fix this issue you will want to follow up by going here which will show how to fix it. Good luck and it worked for me.... http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...pdate&st=20 Edited February 3, 2007 by sandman32 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/40276-softwaresecurity-updates-from-apple/#findComment-292503 Share on other sites
