Okay I guess you guys want specs:-

MSI K8Neo Nforce 3 Mobo

AMD 64bit Athlon Newcastle CPU

1Gb DDR

AC97 Sound card built in

Realtek Network card built in

I have had no porblems with the 10.4.5 release from Jas. Everything worked smoothly, smiles all round :D . However I tried the 10.4.8 release on my computer, first using a 20gb quantum fireball. I've had various problems with this disk before so i wasn't expecting a miracle. However i was pleasantly surprised when the install booted fine, let me choose all of the items that needed installing (I chose the SSE2 AMD kext, AC97 audio and disabled most of the printer drivers).

So anyway half an hour later i'm presented with a screen (after performing the final essentials script) letting me know that the install is ready for a reboot. So I click restart. I then of course get the usual BIOS messages, "detecting IDE drives" (Its important to note at this point that my Hard Disk does show up in the list). The computer then FREEZES :wacko:!!! I don't even have a chance to enter the setup or use a boot menu!

So I then disconnect everything (including the hard disk) and the computer boots fine. I reconnect my Windows Vista disk, DVD rom drive and USB kit, everything works swimmingly. Just to make sure I connect the hard disk on its own, I get the same exact freeze! :(

So anyway as i said above I have had troubles with this drive before, So today i tried using a 60Gb Excelastore (or something) drive that i picked up from Ebuyer a while ago. I have had ABSOLUTLEY NO problems with this drive whatsoever. So I expected JaS OS to install fine. This time, by accident i forgot to choose to customize the install components :D ! However this shouldnt make any difference at all, I should still be able to boot the machine using the hard disk, no problems.

Anyway this time I received a message notifying me that the install could not be completed, and advising me to try again. I click restart (what else do i do? :P) and once again, the NEW hard drive causes the computer to FREEZE! At this point I was bricking myself (:)). So I thought it might just be the new release and the PC, I took both disks to anouther PC. Once again they both froze the other PC aswell, this time as it was "verifying DMI pool".

Last but not least when I burnt the JaS image using Nero. I chose to allow it to verify the disc after burning. Everything checked back with 0 errors. For this reason I did not allow the install to check the disk (I just skipped it).

Thankyou for reading to the bottom of this post! :D . Please could someone tell me that there is a remidy to this situation?!?!?!? :(

...Now sat in a dark room with two disks that JaS has bricked, awaiting advice...

hmm I managed to get the computer to detect the disk by connecting it AFTER booting from the JaS DVD. I don't understand how a piece of software could do this to a hard disk! I tried erasing using the disk utility, and just the disk utility CRASHES! :( . I then tried re-installing, this time with the log. The install stops trying to install the Java Package. Anyway I dont think that last bit of information is important. :whistle:

YOU..................ARE.........................GOD!! :wallbash::D

thanks dude! For me it was just a matter of choosing partition > Single partition inside the Disk Utility (before I was just choosing to erase and it screws up the MBR).
