ultrano72
When I tried to install Mac OS X86 Tiger on my PC (Celeron D @ 2.8 Ghz, SSE3, EM64, ATI Radeon X200 IGP w/32 Shared MB, MSI RC410M-L, 533FSB, 512 MB DDR2@667MHz, 1x SATA 160GB ) I got an error displaying just a Stop Red Sign , so then I tried using VMWare and it appeared to be a problem with the Video (cuz I could't see anything in Full Screen), O.k, I then restarted. Then, I decided to set the Video Mode on darwin to 800x600x16@60 ( and it gave me the same Stop Red Sign ) Then, I used the verbose command, and I saw the message "Platform not supported", again. I thought it was a problem with the Processor (cuz it's 64-bits), but then I browsed the Hardware Compatibility List (HCL), Hardware Component and Unsuported Hardware Pages (www.osx86project.org), and I saw that the my Motherboard and Processor were compatible, except that in the Test it says it not detects the Sillicon Image Serial ATA Raid Controller ( and the only Disk Drive I have is SATA ), I don't think this is much a problem. What do you think ? I would appreciate any response, comment or advice  . Thanks in advance. I'm gonna do again all those things and write down the results tomorrow to give you accurate information. (Real Mode & VMWare). I'll plug tomorrow an IDE Drive and see what happen. Colonel
This sounds like an unpatched DVD to me. Try downloading a pre-patched one. ultrano72
Thank you for reply. By patched do you mean if it's for the x86 platform ? ( I hope ). The version I have is Mac OS 10.4 Tiger For Intel x86. But the only patched versions I've seen are the ones which claim to use a SSE2 Patch. I hope you aren't referring to that versions. O.k, here I post more accurate info with a New Error Message. ( Unable to find driver for this platform: "X86PC". & Still waiting for root device ). I tried setting SATA Controlller as IDE, RAID, and STORAGE on BIOS, but it's the same. When I boot from the DVD Disc the following info appears on screen: Darwin/x86 boot v5.0.128 479MB VESA 2.0 32MB (ATI RADEON XPRESS 200 SERIES) And it prompts me to select a startup volume from the following list (or press [ENTER] key for default ): hd (111,0) Mac OS X Install Disc When I booted with the " -x " option (safe mode) and pressed [ENTER] key the following info appeared on screen (with a background image of a Power Button and a message "You need to restart your computer. marliwahoo
I not sure what you are using. Do you have a "real" (un hacked) version of 10.4 from Apple ? If you do it will not work. You need the modified version (aka "hacked") The current version is the jaS 10.4.8 Intel/AMD sse3 sse2. It is available at different places that can not be mentioned here. Good luck. ultrano72
Thanks marliwaho. O.k, I think that's the reason. But, then, that means that the version I have is for Intel Processors (x86) but not for PC's ? And if so, it is designed to install only on real Mac Hardware ? I'll see if I can buy that Patched version. If anyone is interested, today I connected the IDE Hard Disk Drive to the computer. I booted Mac OS DVD... and the same thing: Stop Sign. So I booted Mac OS DVD again and executed "mach_kernel rd=disk0s1 -v platform=ACPI" command and it displayed the same info but with different content: (The RED Text is the different one) standard timeslicing quantum is: 10000us rm_page_bootstrap: 118611 free pages mig_table_max_displ = 70 CPU identification = Intel ® Celeron ® CPU 2.80 GHz CPU features: FPU VME DE PSE TSC MSR PAE MCE CX8 APIC SEP MTRR PGE MGA CMOV PAT PSE36 CFLSH DS ACPI MMX FVSR SSE SSE2 SS HTT TM SSE3 MON DSCPL TM2 CX16 TPR HTT: 1 core on a die; 1 logical cpu per core CPU extended features: XD EM64T Enabling XMM register save/restore and SSE/SSE2 opcodes battery clock configured [RTLCLOCK] frequency 2790000000 ( 2786441360 ) PCI Ver = 3.0 BusCount=3 Features= [bIOSIO CM1] ACPI CA 20050408 [debug level = 0 layer = 0] AppleACPICPU: ProcessorApicId=1 LocalApicId=0 Enabled AppleACPICPU: ProcessorApicId=2 LocalApicId=129 Disabled AppleACPICPU: ProcessorApicId=3 LocalApicId=130 Disabled AppleACPICPU: ProcessorApicId=4 LocalApicId=131 Disabled Copyright © 1982, 1986, 1989, 1991, 1993. ultrano72
Hi, I just logged to say that I got today the patched version and it now works :censored2:, the DVD is too slow (I don't know if it's because it's a DVD-RW) but I can see the Setup Screen (No PS/2 mouse detected , and Keyboard is messed up with the lights); but that's another post. Also, in VMWare my only problem is that i can't see any partitions on the Virtual HDD, i tried to format it with another guest O.S but it throws a "sbin/... not found" error when loading Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/39776-platform-not-supported-installation-error/#findComment-288288 Share on other sites
