planetexpress
Hey everyone, I've been developing software since 1995 and my first computer was a Sinclair Zx-81 in 1982. Yeah.... I'm old. ha ha I have owned 3 Macs since 2000 and I have a PC in the house that I want to set up to run OSX. Why? Because I hate Windows. I can't deal with using it. It's slow, annoying and a PITA in so many ways. Since I'm a newbie at getting a PC to run OSX, and I know nobody likes to help a newbie through the whole thing, I'll give $20 to anyone who can get me through the process by directing me to the correct resources for my hardware. I've been through the HCL list and can't find any reference to my computer. I find similar machines, but none that are the same. Figuring out if my hardware will run this is the hardest part for me. Partitioning (using Partition magic) is easy, creating bootable DVDs is simple, but when I run the JAS patched OSX boot disc I have, I end up with kernel panics. Here is the patched DVD I'm using: Mac.OS.X.Tiger.10.4.6.X86-HOTiSO Can I install this onto a: Acer Aspire 9300-5317 AMD Turion 64x2 Mobile Technology TL-50 NVIDIA GeForce 6100 Can I install this patched version onto this machine? Is there a patched version that definitely does work on these machines that I need to get? Again, I know people help people for free on here all the time. That's cool. I just want to donate an extra $20 to somebody who will help a complete idiot (who doesn't understand the world of Hackintosh) get OSX up and running. Any takers? I just want to donate an extra $20 to somebody who will help a complete idiot (who doesn't understand the world of Hackintosh) get OSX up and running. Any takers? I'll help - but lets not bother with the donation, eh? If it works, then donate it to Swad/Jason/Mash and help him out... First off, there is nothing in the wiki about the 9300 specifically (you have seen the wiki, right? If no, then go here http://wiki.insanelymac.com ). Have a read. Darn, you mention the HCL - well ignore that bit then, I'll sit over here with my granmother and half a dozen eggs.... I assume you are getting a panic when you boot from the DVD? If so, I bet that copy of 10.4.6 is brainfarting on the AMD patch or lack of it, or its having a hissy fit at the ACPI stuff. If you press F8 when the thing starts up and then enter -V it will boot in verbose mode, and then you can see where its getting stuck. Tell us what its saying.... Have you tried passing kernel parameters at startup? Platform=ACPI or Platform=X86PC ? But with one eye on the future, the big issue with you here is that in order to get close to a full experience on your laptop, you are going to need the 10.4.8 release that allwos you to run titan/natit which will give you a fighting chance at getting decent QE/CI on that nvidia. I think you may have to visit the pink or the green place, and get JaS's last release. //R Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/39536-ill-paypal-you-20-for-helpnewbie/#findComment-281977 Share on other sites
DavidJavid
You'll never what doesn't work until you try it! You said you were using 10.4.6......which is pretty much obsolete. You should download either the TubGirl 10.4.8 or JaS 10.4.8 AMD SSE3 releases. Almost everything works out of the box. And any patching can be done after install. If you don't know where to find them...PM me. CPU: works in other computers Video: I've heard of laptops using this and working You're hard drive is IDE, which means it should work. I wasn't able to find what exactly Invisilink (Acer's NIC) is, but i doubt acer actually made it. It might be an Intel NIC, or some other brand. You can find out. Here;s a really really good tutorial: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=24490 I probably forgot something really important, so keep replying here so people can help you. Edit: I'm pretty sure I posted like 10 mins before it says I did I forgot to add this, and sandwer is right...donate to the site. planetexpress
Thanks so much for the newbie help. I'll definitely donate to the site then. In fact, I'll do it in the morning. Very cool of you guys to believe in the project so much that you would rather see the donation go to the site than to the individual. The world needs more people like you guys. Anyway, I'll take the advice of downloading the latest and greatest in the hopes that it might just make everything more simple. If and when that goes wrong on install, I'll reply to this post. Again, thank you. planetexpress
Just an update... I'm *still* downloading. I've been on Bit Torrent getting that release for almost a month non stop, 24/7. No seeds. Looks like it will be late March before this is finally down. Ready to make that donation soon... just waiting on the download. kevinosx
what image are you downloading!!? They have a newer one out that you can have over night (that's how long it took me) that's probably why everyone abandoned the one you are trying. look for the jas sse2 sse3 amd intel 10.4.8 it has all the latest and greatest stuff. You can get if off demonoid if you have a login but if you don't you can still get it off demonoid but get the torrent file through btjunkie dot org Trust me, you'll be a lot happier with the newer release, has the latest semthex kernel and is a lot easier to figure out while installling. And remember, click the customize button when installing!! good luck edit here's the name: JaS.10.4.8.AMD.Intel.SSE2.SSE3 Edited February 13, 2007 by kevinosx Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/39536-ill-paypal-you-20-for-helpnewbie/#findComment-301698 Share on other sites
