glassJAw
Hello, I have a question. I don't have enough space on my laptop hard drive to install OSX86. Is it possible to install OSX86 on a firewire port w/o make a boot loader for my Windows Vista drive? That way when I plug in the firewire hard drive OSX86 would boot instead of windows, and if I take the firewire port out, then Vista will load on its own. They way I would install it would be taking my laptop hard drive out and installing OSX86, then putting it back in when I'm done. Then set external device for boot 1st, DVD drive 2nd, and hard drive 3rd. MacOSMatt
yep thats surely possible. I installed 10.4.8 on my ext hdd and its only usb2.0, it works brilliantly fast though. all you need to do is create a ntfs or fat32 partition on ur ext hdd, then by hitting F12 on startup (usualy, sometimes f10 f2 depending on ur bios) just choose ur ext hdd and install as u normally would. then if u know how to use ur bios, choose that partition as primary, vista as secondary and voila.. as for this: "Is it possible to install OSX86 on a firewire port w/o make a boot loader for my Windows Vista drive?" ~ what? do you mean when you plug it in running windows it boots osx off the ext hdd? thats possible if you know how to program.. firewire port 2, partition "osx" = true then restart as for taking it out when osx is running and boot back to windows, it would be the same story. ud have to use C++ to program a script that did this, as cool as itd be, why would u want it anyway? glassJAw
Sorry, what I mean is I don't want the OSX to see my windows partition and make a bootloader. That way when I plug the external hard drive it will load OSX86. When I turn on the computer w/o the external hard drive Windows Vista will boot up. Thanks so far. By using EasyBCD in vista, you can easily create a dual boot menu of vista bootloader for your vista internal and osx external. My osx is also installed on a USB harddrive, everything works fine and no need to modify the boot sequence in bios.
