iW00t
Hi guys, First post! I managed to install JaS 10.4.8 on a small spare drive and it works great, so now I am thinking of transporting it onto a more permanent larger drive. What tools should I use to do it? The mac equivalent (SuperDuper!) or the PC cloner (Norton Ghost)? Thanks! fragreaver
Try Carbon Copy Cloner If you don't want to use CCC (it sometimes has problems with file privileges), goto the console and type: asr --source / --target /Volumes/YourBackUpDrive This command uses the Apple Software Restore-Tool. You'll get a bootable 1:1 backup with it. Type in man asr to learn more about it. peekay_us
I've heard rsyncx works for this, too. http://www.hackint0sh.org/forum/showthread.php?t=25 http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=38978 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/39452-cloning-a-osx86-installation-to-another-drive/#findComment-281501 Share on other sites
iW00t
I have been trying both methods and it seems like the other (SATA) drive that I hooked up works extremely slowly. Is there something that I should check? guitarist
Would Acronis disk imager work in DOS for this sort of thing. It can deal with a lot of Linux formats so I'd suspect Journaled ext3 could get compressed into a .pqi file and stored onto a Fat 32 type external drive. Too optimistic? Well I tried it today but havn't flown it back yet as everythings perfect with the OSX install.
