okay, so i read somewhere that u have to have the hdd as master on ide 1, and the dvd drive as slave on that same cable, which was way different than my xp configuration. This configuration is working and im able to boot the dvd, but im wondering if theres any other configuration that will work so i can be able to dual boot xp and osx? srry, i cant find the place where it told me to use this configuration, but hopefully you guys can help! thanks. :P

I'm guessing this is a fix for people who maybe having issues with some combos of hardware & bios. My machine has two ide buses . I've got 2 harddrives Master & slave on 1 bus/ cable . I've got my Pioneer 111 DVD as Master on the other ide bus / cable. No issues with it works fine. Bios let me choose which drive to boot from so I can boot from Win XP ,MacOS or DVD for installing no need for bootcamp etc.

Gateway 300S

Intel 845GL Celeron 2.4 GHz .

Im the same as you on the first ide cable. I have a samsung drive as slave (xp on it, 2 gigs free space)

the master is a western digital(80gb with sabayon linux, going to format)

on the second ide i have a lite on dvd burner on cable select and a samsung cd burner also on cable select.

when i have it setup like this and i boot from the osx dvd it tells me still waiting for root device.

i was wondering how the jumper cables and bios should be set so i dont get this error

i have a p4 2.4 ghz

You need to make your OSX Drive partion primary/active with a bootable disk/partition manager. Linux Live CD with Gparted or a Win98 boot CD or Partion Majic. You can do it with the OSX install disk too using Terminal... directions in forum.

Im installing JaS 10.4.7

I burned it ona dvd+r

The hardware is as follows:

Intel P4 2.4 ghz

1024 mb RAM

80 gb western digital hdd(ide-1,master)

lite on dvd drive (ide-1, slave)

samsung cd/rw(ide-2,master)

its a compaq s4000v

Out of nowhere it tells me error writing files and then stops...
