Sorry for not using the search feature, I find them things completely un helpful cause whenever I use them I can NEVER find what I'm looking for - Honestly, I do try.

Okay seeing as this my first post and everything.Hey I'm new to this forum - Im not a wankpot like most dickheads on the web so dont sweat it, I wont melt your brain with stupid internet slang :tomato: Also Im pretty new to 'hacking/cracking/mac osx86' - whatever it is, I'm new to it and I have been bustng my balls over the past few days trying to get it to work. I've a real fascination with mac's and computers alike and maybe one day I will buy a mac but I want to check it out first and who knows it might suit me on my pc than an actual mac. I've been doing alot of searching and thinking but everything's unclear, have the stuff mentioned I dont understand or else someone say's something like this isn't for newbies. Im okay generally with PC's but when people start talking about what goes on in the boot up and the kernal or whatever, I'm lost but I've been trying my ass off to try and crack this problem. I want Mac OS X on my PC and I want it to run like it would run on a real Mac if it's possible. I'd prefer if it were just a matter of getting a mac disk and installing it somehow, but i know thats not possible and there is some necessery things to do. Anyway, my situation so far.

My system.

Mobo - Gigabyte skt939 Nvidia NF4 Ultra GA-K8Triton

Processor - AMD Athlon64 3000+ [Venice939]

GFX - XFX GeForce128 6600GT PCI-E

Ram - Corsair Value 1gb [2x512] PC3200

As far as I know this set up is pretty compatable. If it isn't I hope you guy's can tell me otherwise.

Anyway it started out with a lust of OS X I went and downloaded a patched image file Mac OS X10.4.3 Tiger x86 with a patch apparently. I have this file on disk and on a drive - which i dont know how to get off or how it got there, I think it was with Infra View somehow, doesnt matter..

So, I was reading on all parts of the web nothing seemed clear I got uBuntu and ran that because that was what the instructions said but it also included other instructions like install vwmare etc etc but I had a feeling I was ahead of that - it was pretty outdated - the website [2005/06]

I got uBuntu on a disk and used it for a while - didnt know what I was doing, it was fun anyway -haha!

So I got it on a disk [Mac OSx 10.4.3] - with a patch apparently. Thought, {censored} this, put it in boot order cd first then run it and it came up saying press any key to boot apple so I did and the grey screen with an apple came up - I thought I was in a little flashin circle came up and I thought 'hmm its loading, ill leave it for a minute and come back'

Came back and a little sqaure with a red circle [Like a no smoking sign] was in the middle, I thought that can't be good. So I restarted and tried again- hit f8 this time when the timer was going down and it said something about Darwin [i have read somewhere this is a necessery program for this] then it said something about -V and all kinds of things. I got stuck there and this is where you guys gotta help me. I just need to know what to do, and I'll do it. I think I need to type in some codes and DD's or something [Note: I dont even know what a DD is I just read it somewhere].

Anyway, try and help me out here

Cheers.

hello and welcome! So you're saying that you didn't actually install it? just tried to boot to the cd?

here is one of the most common problems when trying to install mac osx for pc: you obviously have to get the ISO image from a bittorrent site by looking for "Jas 10.4.8 SSE3, Intel, AMD etc", after the ISO is downloaded then you burn the ISO to dvd using either alcohol 120 or Nero, but when you burn the image make sure you do it at the LOWEST speed possible!! It tooke me 4-5 times to get that right, I had the same problem as you, no smoking sign etc but then reburned it at a low speed and it worked fine.

Then while installing the mac osx you have to have a partition made or a formated hardrive to install to! I use a program called GPARTED that is open source and free! (you have to create a boot disk with it). in the program you create a new partition in FAT32 and set the flag (in the toolbar) as boot that way it can always dual boot to windows or mac osx.

put in the mac osx jas dvd and after the language screen loads, click on Utilities>disk utilities then you will see your partitioned drives and you can click on the one you created and in the erase section format it to HFS+ (mac osx) journaled.

Then exit disk utilites and go to the install screen that has all the checkmarks, this is where you want to be REAL careful, you can't just click install!!

check the languages you want, then in the bottom las you will see a little arrow with other options, that is where you have to select the right options for your system, I.E. SSE3, AMD geforce 6600 etc.

Otherwise it should be pretty straight forward!

I would recommend looking for and installing the JAS 10.4.6 dvd and then upgrading to 10.4.8. (most compatibility on the 10.4.6 dvd).

I would really recommend looking up the details in the WIKI section though, it has good instructions, that's probably why no one has responded.

Good luck!

I did look at the wiki section by the way, I looked all over the place I just couldnt find a straightforward answer or one that suited my situation best.

Im downloading what you said anyway and Im going to try it.

I think I understand now - which is why i edited this post

And here, thanks for replying, I see the light now.. :P

Hey can any of you guy's help me. Im getting a hold of JaS OSx86 10.4.8. Then from there im going to use the wiki installation guides as instructed by your man there.

Anyway I have OSx86 10.4.3 and its patched but it comes as an .ISO then in that same folder is the same file cept it says patched [its a .md5 file] and it is unrecognised and is only 1kb. So what do i do with this?

Has it anything to do with the .ISO - do i need to put it in with the .ISO to make it work?

Okay - I've done what was asked, well not fully. I got a version of JaS 10.4.8 - Takes agess. Anyway it has come as .RAR files about 240 of them - Do I just Click them all and extract them all at the same time, or Extract individually? I done the first method first and brought the .ISO image up in Ultra .ISO but it was only like 400kb and it said it was 4.3gb on the outside.

You don't need to extract each individual one. They are linked so that when you elect to extract even one with WinRAR, you get the whole package which in this case is a collection of files making up an .iso file (image). It will be 4+ GB's... And since I am pretty sure that this is the latest JaS 10.4.8 (because or the .rar), there is a companion download that patches the iso before you install...

Cheers I got passed that bit - It was being read as a 4.5gb disk and coming up as a 400kb file cause it was in HFS+.

Ive got 10.4.8 now.. Just need to get it on my harddrive and ENJOY it but thats all ive got so Im not sure what else to do, That guy up there says get Gparted - but what about partition magic ? or must I use gparted? and how do i 'flag' the harddrive?

Well it depends.

Are you installing it to a second hard drive? As I did?

If so use this guide here: VMWare to Native Installation.

The method I used involves downloading a JaS OS X 10.4.6 SSE3 Combo Update DVD, and burning the ISO to DVD.

Using the 10.4.6 DVD, install using the VMware method shown above (I didn't try the virtual drive method, I went straight to DVD, so if the virtual drive method doesn't work, use the Physical Drive method.)

Once you have everything started, go ahead and install. It may or may not take a few tries, so be patient. It took me seven tries. So yeah.

After everything is installed, you can see your NTFS drive. Luckily, you have read capabilities in OS X, and you can mount ISO files just like DMG files. So go ahead and mount it.

If you have internet access, google for a program called pacifist.

If not, switch back to whatever you used to download the ISO, and grab pacifist, and find a way to get it onto OS X. Install Pacifist.

With the ISO of 10.4.8 mounted, open up Pacifist. It should show the DVD that you intend to use, so go ahead and click ok.

Search for the 10.4.8 update, and install through Pacifist. Then reboot.

Once you've rebooted, setup all your stuff. There's plenty of guides and instructions here that you can find with the search button. Nothing is going to be perfect, since most of the stuff is written by parts of this community, and are W.I.P.'s. (The only thing that doesn't work fully yet is my second monitor.)

When you are done, you may notice that when playing a video, you have choppy audio. Look here to update to the latest kernel.

After all that, you should be golden.
