I've got on my hands an ATI radeon xpress 1100, and am trying to enable quartz on it, or at least opengl. I've used Callisto to up my screen resolution for it, but can't get any further than that. To my understanding, Apple has not made any drivers for this card. Is there anything out there that does the job?

Thanks for any help!

The Acer Aspire 5100 does not have MXM or Axiom. It also has PCMCIA rather than the new express slot. You cannot upgrade the video, sorry.

There will probably be more drivers in Leopard depending on what cards Apple adds. 10.5 will break compatibility with 10.4 drivers, at least for a short time I'd assume, so 10.5 won't instantly fix your problem. Work is being done, so gradually OS X86 will support more graphics cards.

Don't worry about QE and OpenGL. There aren't many games for OS X, and with a Turion64 you probably won't need UI acceleration. Try the HCL lists and searching the driver forum if it really is a problem.

Thanks frizbot. You just saved me a whole load of research.

I need QE/CI in order to run final cut pro hd for my apple-oriented media class at school.

Try the HCL lists and searching the driver forum if it really is a problem.

You mean I should search for a driver that enables qe/ci with xpress 1100?

If worse comes to worse I'll check the forum after a few months to see if a driver has been made.

There may be tricks to getting around the Final Cut Pro system requirements, since they were already artificially inflated. Try macosxrumors.com , they might have info on that. In the meantime, since you need it for class, consider similar Windows/Linux applications or buying a cheaper/used Apple PC.

Try searching the forums for ATI drivers in general. The drivers for other ATI cards that work may work for your card. I don't see much info on your specific card, and I don't know ATI well anymore. I hadn't actually heard of your card before, but you're right that thats the card your laptop has.

Things are developing and quickly with OS X and OS X86. My systems that couldn't run 10.4.7 could run 10.4.8, mostly due to the hard work of the OS X86 community. Good luck :(

To this point I've been using Adobe Premiere Pro 2 as an alternative, but because I've been running on windows, my software wasn't reviewed as well as everyone else's, and, well, it really affected my grade.

I tried running Final Cut Pro HD on my system, and everything was running fine until I pressed play. The the program shut down. This lead me to believe that I was missing something crucial. I read elsewhere in the forum that you needed qe/ci to run final cut pro, so I figured that that was the problem.

I'll keep checking around though. Thanks for all you help. :)
