Hello folks

Intel P4 Northwood ( based system have had 10.4.6 running in the past (sorry not sure which version it was as was total newb then!)

Just done install of most recent 10.4.8 JaS DVD *including* the more recent .ppf patch.

Install is to an empty drive (any partitions deleted with Hiren's Boot CD tools) and single OS X partition created with Disk Utilities on install DVD

Install succeeds but on reboot machine reaches black apple against gray background screen with petal timer animation then blank screen AND light on monitor switch goes green to orange as if suspended/sleep.

Thoughts anybody ... other than just getting out the VISA card and buying an iMac/Mac Pro LOL! ;)

i've given up on the whole hackintosh thing

the JaS stuff is awesome of course and getting OSX to run at all is a major achievement but i dunno i can just see myself for ever fiddling and losing many, many, many ... hours of my life :)

good luck to you all i'm gonna buy an imac!

Hey Jim and others,

Thanks for posting the issues you are having--I was going to post about it too, but I wanted to research and try things out first, which I did. Yes, I have the same problem on my Hac using the latest JaS 10.4.8 SSE2/SSE3/AMD/Intel release; I get the grey Apple screen with the dial moving at the bottom, and I can hear the music. If I try pressing a key on the keyboard, I hear the "boo boo" sound (sorry for my simplistic description--I am referring to the sound that is made when you click/type somewhere and OS X does not let you click there). I have left the screen like that (turned monitor off at some times), and it still shows the same grey Apple screen. My PC specs are in my sig at the bottom of this message. I was wondering if it was the graphics card--I have an oldie nVidia GeForce4 440 MX. But I made sure to uncheck the Titan option since I know it doesn't work on this card. I also read about USB/PS2 being the issue--I have both keyboard and mouse at PS2 at the moment (the mouse is using a USB to PS2 adapter, but I prefer USB; it just doesn't work right in Hackintosh). Oh yes, and I have applied the PPF patch too. Are you all on Northwood processors too? I know you are, Jim. By the way Jim, I think getting a Mac is a GREAT idea (if you would like to do it and if you have the funds)--you can save hundreds of dollars if you shop in Apple's refurbished section or if you are a student and shop in Apple's education store. Long live Macs! \m/ Sorry for the long post--just wanted to share my input and experiences with this. I guess I could just stick to my trustworthy PowerBook, but I really like being able to run Mac OS X on my desktop too (well, I could stick to a previous version too, as it works fine). Thanks all! :thumbsup_anim:

Cya!

I've had similiar problems when using AGPgart and Titan/Natit at the same time.. :/

I suggest you remove those Kexts if you have them installed and retry..

Then again, that was after upgrading, haven;t used the new Jas dvd yet.

Its because of agpgart that gets installed with the natit or titan (in case u applied the ppf) deselect this package during install and install natit or titan manualy and it will work with QE/CI hopefully as it did for me.

you can try deleting AGPGart.kext incase you don't want to reinstall.

i've removing AGPgart and still get the back screen with my ATI Radeon 9550 AGP

:)

I got my 6800 Gt to work (with QE/CI) as the following:

(1)Reinstall without the package NV40 or ATi ones and install natit.kext (if u have an ATI or nvidia card) as the following.

get Natit.kext

(2) Put the Natit kext in your /System/Library/Extensions/ folder.

(3) Correct the file premissions:

sudo chown -R root:wheel Natit.kext

sudo chmod -R 755 Natit.kext

(4) Remove the cached and packed extensions:

sudo rm -f /System/Library/Extensions.mkext /System/Library/Extensions.kextcache

(4) Reboot.

not sure if it will work with ATI.
