Embio
hey, I think the title says it all, I'm on a uni campus and need to share a wireless connection over ethernet to 4 other computers (in my signature) each running various Linuxes (Linuxi?) and Windows 2000 - they are connected to a switch over ethernet. Any ideas? I tried 'internet sharing' but I'm now reading thats just for other Macs - doh! any ideas appreciated SOLVED: it was the old TCP/IP settings, seems it doesnt work with fixed IPs. Valkura
Assume the campus used wired networking, and you didn't have the Mac. How would you connect those 4 boxes? Embio
with a router. I see your point, but there are certain restrictions on the network - I have to open a browser and provide a username and password, so I couldnt use a router even if the wired port in my room did work. Valkura
Honestly I don't know much about networking (the difference between a switch and a router messes me up... I'll take the time to learn someday :censored2:), but couldn't you just plug a wire into your Mac as if it was the connection to the outside world? Set up Internet Sharing in System Preferences -> Sharing -> Internet? Embio
thats precisely what I did. It worked flawlessly on my friends macbook that I used to test it, but my Linux and Windows boxes arent playing ball, even with my macbook set as gateway.
