jana
-did u install all the extra poop M$ gives u (games, system things, themes, wallpapers) -XP Pro is a old OS now and when you think about the flops M$ made with security and stuff their bound to have that many updates to fix what they didnt at realease. I would think that the Xp updates would total over 2Gigs -oh and as joe75 pointed out if u installed without a format or clean install then it would have upgraded your last windows version in which case it would keep the settings and system files of the previous windows iin case u asked for it to be uninstalled. Casals
In my case (BootCamp on a MacBook Pro) I was stupefied by it as well. That was a clean install. I reduced the requirements by disabling hibernation (which, in my case left 2 GB unused space occupied regardless of my usage). There was another sys file I was able to delete occupying another 2 Gig, but I don´t remember which one it was. DiaboliK
haha 9gb sounds about right. with nlite i can get rid of most of the {censored} and i get 1.4gb final install size. including diskeeper, kaspersky antivirus, and a few other nessisary things like firefox, azureus, and photoshop cs2. without things like com+ and legacy support everything flies. bluedragon1971
its a clean install with my laptop recovery cd , stupid xp. time to clean it up, this time around im only gonna use xp for games, well until i sort out osx86 and kubuntu Recovery CD's are usually FULL of junk that you don't need, like demos of software, games, and tons of other junk. That is most likely why you had such a large install. A standard install of XP with all updates should be well under 2GB, not counting your page file and hibernation file (which vary depending on the amount of RAM in your system). GBK.Xscape
actually the OEM install cd is as clean as it gets, the recovery driver cd/dvd is the thing that is packed with junk.
