Steddyman
I have a Asus P5W DH Deluxe with 2Gb memory and an Asus 7900GS 256mb with JAS 10.4.8 Intel SSE2 SSE3. It has a Conroe E6300 processor overclocked to 3Ghz (100% stable in Vista and OSX). I have everything working and even have QE / CI enabled, but when I go to about this MAC, the desktop looks like it crashes and reloads. It only takes it about 3 seconds to do this. Has anyone seen this before? Thanks Steddyman Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/37863-about-this-mac-not-working/ Share on other sites
Luisef
Hi man, make a search in the forum for the Colonel's Patch..... May be that fixes... Steddyman
Thanks Man I found the thread but the Profiler Patch has zero seeds on Demon atm I did download and install the pauilcat AppleSMBIOS.kext and apply that as mentioned in one of the threads. That has fixed the crash, but the processor is reported as a 1.4ghz Core 2 Duo even though its running at 3Ghz!!! Any ideas why that may be? Thanks again Steddyman Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/37863-about-this-mac-not-working/#findComment-269832 Share on other sites

Steddyman
Thanks I found it. Installed it and it has added some information to the Profiler, but everything is still reporting 1.4Ghz. My BIOS and XP both report 3Ghz. Steddyman Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/37863-about-this-mac-not-working/#findComment-269858 Share on other sites
Luisef
You welcome man, I use to have that problem also with the 10.4.7....(i have a Prescott 530), instead of recognize the 2 (virtual) CPU at 3.0Ghz only recognized 1 at 1.5Ghz... It`s not the same Issue but maybe is related.... But in 10.4.8 i can see 3.0Ghz.... and also report the correct bus frequency.... Try to go to the IRC Semthex channel...I believe it's named "Kernel" though... Steddyman
Thanks Colonel I have done that already following Luisef's advice, but version 1.2 on 10.4.8 is reporting less than half the frequency it should be. Henke
Are you sure you have the latest Semthex kernel? It should work if you have. Try to manually install the final SSE3 kernel from http://www.semthex.com Edited January 7, 2007 by Henke Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/37863-about-this-mac-not-working/#findComment-270146 Share on other sites
Steddyman
You could be right, but I did install it from the 10.4.8 DVD. I suppose I could have selected the wrong options. Is there a way to tell which kernel you are running? Thanks Steddyman Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/37863-about-this-mac-not-working/#findComment-270327 Share on other sites
Colonel
Is there a way to tell which kernel you are running? Go into terminal and type "uname -a" without the quotes. It will tell you what kernel you're using and what day it was compiled. Steddyman
Thanks. It reports: Darwin stephen-eddys-computer.local 8.8.1 Darwin Kernel Version 8.8.1: Sat Oct 28 02:54:20 CDT 2006; root:xnu-792.13.8/BUILD/obj/RELEASE_I386 i386 i386 Looking on the installation DVD there are two mach_kernel files: mach_kernel - size 4,142,980 mach_kernel.mifki - size 4,163,348 Looking at the size on / it is 4,163,348 suggesting it is the mifki kernel. If that is the case and its wrong, how can I change the kernel? I wouldn't imagine I could just copy it because it will probably be in use. Steddyman
Well, surprise surprise it let me just copy mach_kernel from the DVD over the top using sudo. I rebooted and I noticed it now says Semthex kernel in yellow right at the start. About my Mac and Profiler are still reporting a 1.4ghz Core 2 Duo processor!! wow
when you installed jas 1048 dvd did you check the logon 1044 window? i guess not That one was to prevent this specidif error, it says so if you click it Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/37863-about-this-mac-not-working/#findComment-270363 Share on other sites
Steddyman
Thanks wow I installed that from the DVD and it is still the same. It isn't crashing any longer, but it still reports the speed as 1.4Ghz. I even dropped the speed in the BIOS from 3ghz to 1.86ghz which is the actual standard speed. That still reports 1.4Ghz!! I wonder if OSX is somehow clocking it down, or just reporting it wrong. I have some other funnies too, such as OpenMark crashing at any res other than 1920x1200.
