danielharker
Howdy y'all. Under my system profiler - disc burning, it says: TSSTcorp CD/DVDW TS-H552L: Firmware Revision: 0614 Interconnect: ATAPI Burn Support: Yes (Unsupported) Profile Path: None Cache: 2048 KB Reads DVD: Yes CD-Write: -R, -RW DVD-Write: -R, -RW, +R, +RW, +R DL Burn Underrun Protection CD: Yes Burn Underrun Protection DVD: Yes Write Strategies: CD-TAO, CD-SAO, CD-Raw, DVD-DAO Media: No What does that even mean? Burnsupport: Yes (unsupported) <-- If it's supported with a yes, why are there brackets that say no? I'm using the ATI IXP controller. Has anyone else had problems with their CD burners? I've searched the forums, and hit IRC, and no one seems to have the same problem as me. When I go into itunes, it says: The attempt to burn a disk failed. The device failed to respond properly, unable to recover or retry. So... I know that it works in windows. What am I missing in osx? Thanks so much, Cheers, Danny H Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/37835-cant-burn-cds/ Share on other sites

consolation
AFAIK the levels of burn support are: No ->No burn support (duh...) Yes (Unsupported) ->drive reports burn ability Yes (Vendor Supported) ->drive reports burn ability, mac os recognizes device ID Yes (Apple Shipped/Supported) ->for drives such as Pioneer (104 to 111) that are identical to the drives shipped by apple, and have their profile registered in mac os. iApps are notoriously finicky about using drives other than (Apple Shipped/Supported), use Toast instead or install Patchburn to add the drive's profile to os. This is AP for a fully supported drive: PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-111D: Firmware Revision: 1.23 Interconnect: ATAPI Burn Support: Yes (Apple Shipped/Supported) Cache: 2000 KB Reads DVD: Yes CD-Write: -R, -RW DVD-Write: -R, -RW, +R, +RW, +R DL Burn Underrun Protection CD: Yes Burn Underrun Protection DVD: Yes Write Strategies: CD-TAO, CD-SAO, CD-Raw, DVD-DAO Media: No Edited January 6, 2007 by consolation Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/37835-cant-burn-cds/#findComment-269739 Share on other sites
Guest newbrocca
Hi It does not support because the DVD is not an Apple DVD ,use a 3rd part burner like "Burn" from opensourcemac.org Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/37835-cant-burn-cds/#findComment-272263 Share on other sites

danielharker
Hrm... So I installed patch burn, and it says that my CD drive is now Vendor Supported but not Apple Shipped... And it still won't work in itunes. Am I doomed to just use third party apps like toast? Or is there an option that I am not clicking on in patch burn? P.S: Thank you so much for all of the great replys. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/37835-cant-burn-cds/#findComment-273816 Share on other sites
Coffee_Bean
I'm having similar problems with a TSSTCorp drive on 10.4.8. It used to work in 10.4.7, but now Toast just bounces and dies and all other burn apps fail to burn. I have used patchburn to get it Vendor Supported, but still no play. Any ideas?
