But i wondering what is the best motherboard and CPU for this case ? My solution is: Motherboard : Asrock ConRoe945G-DVI (QE/CI works fine with gma950) CPU : Celeron D. Has everyone a better answer ? Note: I would like a cheaper configuration as possible. Thanks for your replies. tomtefar
Well the AB9 Pro from Abit has 6 SATA ports on the ICH8R which work in AHCI, 2 SATA ports on the JMB363 which work in SATA mode and 1 internal and 1 external SATA port on the Silicon Image 3132 PCIe controller which have 3rd party native drivers that work with hot-plug (get the little eject button in finder as you do with CDs etc) that install fine (+1 PATA on the JMB363 which work). Furthermore there are 2 PCIe-connected Gb-lan ports supported by DaemonES network driver. I'd say 6+2+1+1+1x2 = 12 drives are pretty ok for a "server". Plus the sound works with the ALC882 patch as well as monitoring of CPU (Core2Duo) + HDD (in AHCI mode) temperatures. Get a dirt-cheap Nvidia 6200/6500 or something for the graphics, even work in dual with TV enabled (with QE/CI). TribesMan
Symbion I think that Asrock ConRoe945G-DVI is a safe bet for a cheap motherboard. But if you are thinking about geting a celeron D just make sure that you will buy 352, 356 or 360. Those are new celerons with 512kB L2 cache made in 65nm technology. Those are much faster than old 90nm Celerons (similar speed to "original" P4 clock for clock) and they overclock like hell... Easily 4.5GHz with stock cooler, or 5GHz with good afermarket air cooler... Gorosh
I have P5W DH Deluxe and practicaly everything work perfectly out of the box. I barely touched Terminal window, and only replaced few kexts. I'd definitely recommend that board (plus it has EEC ram support, and supports enough SATA disks, since you're interested in server). It's not cheap however. SuperJudge
I've had considerable success with the P5LD2-VM, but yours is cheaper, and I'm now looking for a mother board that supports >4GB of ram, and isn't too much of a pain in the butt.
