bennals
Hi. After several months of problem free operation something seems to have happened to my hackintosh based on this Conroe board and I'm hoping someone can help. Like I said, I've not had a single problem since installing the Jas 10.4.7 DVD but just now it kernel panicked with the 'hold down the power button' screen (for the first time ever) and now rebooting won't even get me to the start-up screen. The board is powered as all the fans start up, the optical drive is spinning up and I hear the SATA drive making noises but there is no beep and no output to the monitors (dual using the included DVI card), not even the initial boot option screen let alone the grey screen. I'm not very familiar with PCs and just followed the various sets of instructions to get OSX86 installed. Can someone point me in the right direction of how to begin trouble shooting it. I've tried removing each of the two 512MB ram sticks in the machine one at a time and also changing their slots but it makes no difference (could they both have died simultaneously?). I removed the firewire card and the DVI riser card as well. No luck. Is it possible that the motherboard has failed in some way? Any help greatly appreciated. Bill. I've been through hell with that board only to discover that my 350W PSU wasn't up to the task. In my case I had kernel panics and random reboots. First I thought it was my cpu temperature. Later I thought it was my DVD burner since the system was quite stable with the old one. Sometimes the system wouldn't boot either (black screen) because the hard disk wouldn't start and kept making some clicking noises. This is just to tell you that the board is very temperamental and also very slow to boot (in my opinion). But don't forget to try with another PSU. Preferably higher power. Wish you luck Edited January 4, 2007 by Fernando Birra Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/37678-problem-with-asrock-conroe945g-dvi-based-system/#findComment-268329 Share on other sites
bennals
Thanks Fernando. My power supply is a 430W Thermaltake which I gather should be adequate. The months of flawless performance and the sudden death of the system makes me think it might be a hardware failure elsewhere. Further information for anyone that's interested. I spoke to a friend who suggested that I should unplug everything apart from the power lead and remove the ram and see if the system beeps after being switched on. I tried that and there is no beep at all. He suggested that probably means the motherboard or CPU, both of which are only a few months old. He suggested I try re-seating the CPU and see if that helps so that's what I'll try next. Bill.
