snaggy Posted January 3, 2007 Share Posted January 3, 2007 I'm tryng to install osx86 10.4.4 on a dell 500m. The problem is, as you may know, che graphic chipset intel 855gm that doesn't handle graphic ram memory correctly, giving only 836k ov memory with the resul that the screen isn't readable (could make out just a few word by guessing..) I'd like to know if anyone has managed to install it (event not af full native resolution, but something usable), and how it was done. Should I try with the 10.4.1? I heard somewhere that there are some .kext files involved (I don't even know what these files are by the way..) any suggestion will be appreciated... I'm so sad I was so eager to have an osx86 computer... If so, did you have any problem? bye update: I Found again that the 10.4.1 works! But there's a little problem, can't find it! There are no torrent left with that version?!? I mean the original is ok I'll patch it myself.. I also have the 500m and tried 10.4.8 and 10.4.3 before realizing that the Intel 855GM chipset doesn't work. I have found the bz2 image from back in August of 05, which I assume is the initial 10.4 release for x86. Just curious about your progress and if we could help each other get this thing installed properly. Thanks. snaggy Posted January 8, 2007 Author Share Posted January 8, 2007 Sorry to say it, but after 3 days of download I finally installed 10.4.1 Just the same, absolulety no improvement (actually the audio doesn't even work!!) I managed to instal it pretty easily this time, cause I knewn whch buttons to press, but still I can0t read a thing I'm seriously wondering that the 855patch for linux might work, I mean the architecture is similar someone could try it (unfortunately I've no experience on programming on osx or linux) bye and if anyone of you does know anything, post here! BondDotCom Posted January 9, 2007 Share Posted January 9, 2007 I've seen (and downloaded) the 855patch and even tried to compile it under Darwin but could not get it to compile with gcc. I'm new to Linux and Mac, though, so I'll admit that my efforts were probably pretty lame. I don't see why it wouldn't work, though. I just wish someone knew how to port this from Linux to Mac.
