Wisam
Hi, I am running Jas 10.4.8 Intel with Semthex beta8. I've enabled Personal File Sharing and Windows File Sharing. However, when I go to Network folder in Mac I see Mshome (has windows clients over my home network) My network folder is empty. Workgroup is empty and Servers has my computer name. Can someone tell me how to access Mac through Windows. May be it is a Hackintosh issue. coolsax98
I'm running a hackintosh and successfully sharing files with a Windows machine. This may help you out a bit. http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107083 As you'll notice in the link, the trick is setting up the accounts on your mac for the users that will be connecting from the Windows machine. Hope this helps Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/37540-windows-cannot-access-mac-through-file-sharing/#findComment-267276 Share on other sites
Wisam
Thanks for you reply. I followed the link and I checked my settings. Mac 10.4.8 does not have an option in account settings to check for Windows users to access Mac shares I think only Mac 10.3. Is it an Intel issue ? I continued further and I found that I had to change Directory Access for Windows Sharing from Workgroup to Mshome. After i did that now my windows machine can discover my mac in My Network Places at LAST !! But when I double click on my mac share the windows keeps trying to connect but it couldn't display the login window to the share. Please help me. I want to access my video files and audio through the network. It is very annoying to keep copying files. I appreciate any hint, tip or help. Thanks in advance Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/37540-windows-cannot-access-mac-through-file-sharing/#findComment-268021 Share on other sites
sg
when you enable the windows sharing in osx (10.4) you will see an 'accounts' button that you need to click where you enable your account. it wont work without that. Wisam
Thanks sg for your reply. I already checked the box for my account to enable windows sharing So the window tells me that I can access my shares using //192.168.254.3/wisam When I type that in my windows machine it keep trying to load the window to access Mac's shares but after 1 min I receive failure message. I guess there is a problem with windows file sharing on Mac 10.4.8 Is there another settings or hacks to check where the problem lies ? sg
it seems to work fine here with both of my PCs running XP SP2. i have both PCs set to use the WORKGROUP domain or whatever instead of MSHOME. Surprisingly I don't know why or how it worked but it is good news although a bit slow to access it first time.
