gcodori
I am pondering the idea of building an osx86 machine based around the 945g-dvi with a c2d, the stock dvi add-in video board, slimline dvd burner and single sata HD. The CPU would have a stock cooler - will not be overclocking. I am thinking of this unit as a "wannabe mac mini" as it has the dvi output which I plan to use with my projection big screen. My main concern is selecting a power supply. I would like to find one that would be small and quiet, while using as little juice as possible. I understand the mini uses a "laptop brick" as it is basically a laptop without the keyboard and LCD. I would love to have something I can keep on all day (in sleep mode) without running up the electric bill. I was thinking of a 1U 300w power supply, as I wanted to build a compact case (was even thinking of using a pci-e riser card to lay the dvi card on it's side). Maybe something like 12x12x4 inches. For my listed components, does this sound reasonable? Anyone consider something small like this? Also, has the sleep issue been solved? A search for "945g-dvi + sleep" brought up no results. Thanks! PS - first post but long time lurker. My wife just purchased a c2d macbook, and I WAS eyeing a mini solo for a c2d swap and sata 3.5 HD hack. BUT...Figured it would be easier to start with the 945g-dvi instead since I'd have to build a new case and add an additional PSU for the HD anyway.
