Hello

I am trying to install 10.4.8 and im getting a strange problem i cannot seem to find help with. I have an ASUS P5W DH Deluxe motherboard with a 320gb seagate barracuda sata drive. This drive is connected to a ICH7R controller. Xp works without any problem. The osx86 isntallation goes through fine and when it restarts it gives me the error "error loading operating system". I tried changing the ide controller mode to AHCI instead of standard ide and that did not help. The only way i can boot into osx is to put in the installation cd and boot with it. There is also a JMicron JMB363 controller on my motherboard and when i connect the drive to it i get the same error. HELP!!!!

That's not exactly what you want but if you're going to dual boot you can edit boot.ini from xp bootmanager at the end with:

c:\chain0="Mac OSX"

And get the chain0 file from the install dvd, you can also press f8 quickly after booting osx for choosing the boot partition if it's not active.

what did you end up installing (version/distro)? maybe you're using some weird version of IOATAFamily. i have my winxp drive in ICH7 port 1 and my osx drive in port 2.

anyways, it seems like maybe your osx partition isnt blessed or set to active, how did you format it and setup the partition?

im using Jas 10.4.8 with semthex, i have 1 hd with both xp and vista on it - could that be the problem???? and the osx partition is set to active.. il re-download os x and hope for the best but this does not explain why chain0 never worked for me.. any suggestions?

btw i see u have a E6400 at 3.2ghz, obviosly overclocked like crazy.. i heard that overclocking a care 2 duo is a long procedure, is that true? Also i hear that your going to need an insane cooling system - is that also true? what do you have for cooling? (I have a E6600 at 2.6ghz and want ot overclock)
