Fresh OSX Installation freezes during boot

Hello!

I just finished installing JaS 10.4.7 (intel) and it appears to completely freeze up right after the etherenet card is detected. I have a suspicion that OSX successfully booted up, yet the video card drivers aren't working (I have an Nvidia 7300LE). How do I fix this? I plan on buying an ATi Radeon X1600 soon, but I'm worried that that may not be enough. If it makes any difference, it gave a message earlier that it failed to load the GeForce kernel extension. Any ideas?
