powrslave
boot off the dvd once it's up, run the disk utility (top of screen) partition your desired hdd install on that drive Select that drive to boot first in bios or just select it Once at desktop, use disk utilty again (applications>utils) and partition and format the storage drive. Good luck Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/36928-how-do-i-install-mac-without-windows/#findComment-262598 Share on other sites
Sailfish
If you install Mac first, it is extremely difficult(maybe impossible) to add windows to the Darwin Bootloader. If you go that route and you hate Acronis, Use EasyBCD. It is a nice compromise. For your 160GB drive... I would grab a live linux Ubuntu CD and use Gparted to reformat it. Any good "Bootable" partitioning software like partition magic should do it. In regards to Acronis... It is a great bootloader. I have used it a great deal. If you do not possess in your hand a Windows XP installation disk OR the bootable Acronis MBR repair tool, then you should not put it on your system. The MBR will become corrupt. It is just a matter of time. It also only takes about a minute to fix it if your prepared. Defrag is just one of the functions that breaks Acronis. Rammjet
Burn the Acronis iso to a CD and boot it. It will run the Acronis repair programs. Select the option to repair Acronis or to remove Acronis. The way Acronis works is it moves all of your Windows files into a folder called BOOTWIZ. Then Acronis acts like a mini-DOS to boot the disk and run Windows located in that directory. That is why you cannot find any Windows files on the disk because they are all moved. If you remove Acronis, it moves the Windows files back to the correct locations before deleting the Acronis software. Acronis keeps its configuration in a large compressed file. That uncompressing on boot and recompressing afterward eventually gets corrupted. Running the Acronis tools can repair that compressed configuration file. Rammjet
You can use a lot of things to make a partition active. Any bootable Windows/Linux disk/partition utility CD will do it. The Acronis bootable repair CD can run a version of the Disk Suite and do it. Any OSX install DVD can do it: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=22844 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/36928-how-do-i-install-mac-without-windows/#findComment-262992 Share on other sites
