I've been using osx full time for about a month now with no problems, so i think "great, I'm gonna switch".

I have 3 sata hard disks and 2 pata disks, 1 pata disk is formatted to mac extended and the rest are ntfs. The problem I have is that my 2 largest sata disks are chock full of movies/games/general warez that i don't want to lose. Luckily my 3rd sata disk only contained windows and a few apps, so i format it to mac extended and start to copy my files from one of my ntfs drives to the newly created drive, after a few minutes my whole system crashes and i cannot do anything but move the mouse around. I restart my machine and try it again, same problem! I reboot again and instead of copying and pasting my files i use the disk utility to try to restore my ntfs drive to the new mac drive, it again crashes. Now the problem that I have is that my computer is no longer stable unless I unmount my new drive (it hangs after about 2 minutes)

Has anyone else encountered this problem? Or know of a way around it?

I have 3 sata and 1 pata drive in my system. My OSX is on the pata drive and my other drives are readable. but not in their entirity. The drive that saves my butt is a USB drive with bunches of videos and multimedia stuff wich is ENTIRELY accessable to either system (I dual Boot) If I were you I'd get a huge

USB drive and dump all your {censored} on that. For reasons unknown to me, I can put whatever I want on the USB drive and either system finds it with no trouble. Hell, I got Il06 from usenet under XP dumped all the RAR's to the USB drive, then booted to MAC, used split and concat to reassemble the .dmg and was building a webpage for iWeb last night on my hackintosh. BTW I own 3 other Apples anyway...AND using them as a firewire drive...pulled MS office from one of my MACS (power PC) and put it on the hackintosh...it works.

good luck!

cheers mark, unfortunately i persisted in trying to copy my files over and now have only half of my divx collection left and hardly any of my warez :-(

I wish i'd just left it alone now, but i might have to use (shudder) windows again until sata support is 100%

The pata drive that i use for osx is only a lowly 40 gig, which just isn't enough for my downloading habits, not when i've got over 1TB of writable sata storage under xp.

It saddens me because i've gotten used to osx, at least theres flyakite for xp, that softens the blow............... a little

Bigeasy,

The things that keep me from COMPLETELY switching are...1) PC games Even though I'm 51 I am still addicted to them and have kicked many a 21 year old's butt in deathmatch (YES it's satisfying! ) 2) USENET - I have been a usenet junkie for years and years. Unison and Thoth and Hogwasher still don't hold a candle to either Newsbin or Agent for windows. 3) All the DVD rip and make happen utilities. There's millions for windows and I like them. 4) All the utilities and tools available...I just like having all this "stuff" to play with. Do I like OS X better.....yep...sure do...BUT. Until it all comes to MAC...I'll keep dual booting. PS...you're form New Orleans right? I was born there and my mama used to play piano at Pat O'Brians.

Im from Coventry, England :-) Im called bigeasy because im 6'6", 260lbs and really easy going (rather than after the city).

I'm writing this from windows, which oddly requires me to hunt down more drivers than osx did!

I had trouble getting a decent newsreader for osx too, i settled on one called igrabnews, which seemed to work fairly well, especially if you use nzb files. i still prefer grabit for windows though.

I dont play many games on my pc, i collect video games/systems, i've got around 54 sytems, including 3 arcade machines, one of which is a mame cabinet with over 5000 games :-)

Bigeasy,

Funny you mention the mame cabinet!! I have an old arcade cabinet I'm gutting and am building the same thing!! I sure don't have 5000 games for it though. Maybe in the future you could give me some pointers on setting the rig up. I could really use the help! And yes Windows takes up so much tine with its driver updates...drives me crazy. I installed flyakite last night for the hell of it and now I can't load iTunes!! Looks like I'll have to do a system restore. pm me if you want to help me with my mame box!!

Take Care,

Mark
