Hello,

Is it possible to delete older system prior to installing new one and how ?

(something like deleting Windows folder before new total system install)

I'm having big problems installing jas 10.4.8 over 10.4.6.

10.4.6 was working without any problems straight out of box, 10.4.8. tons of problems

thx

If you use the Mac terminal in the installation, it should work.

1. Boot the DVD

2. What's the name of your OSX-partition on the hard drive? Write it down.

3. Open Terminal

4. type: rm -R /Volumes/<nameosxpartition>/System/

for instance: rm -R /Volumes/Macintosh/System/

5. Enter-key

6. Install OSX86

wow > Erase volume ? That will delete all HDD, almost like format ?

Also, guys, what to choose here when installing 10.4.8 ?

Look at my signature for Hardware.

No it only deletes the data on the volume you choose, its no format. Although the result is a freshly clean disk in both cases.

I'm not sure if I follow you.... If I have only one volume, system and all other software and files on that volume it will delete it all, right ?

I want just to erase system folder if that is possbile.

Hope you know what you want. Boot the install DVD and go to Terminal in the Utilities menu. Type:

rm -rf /Volumes/(name-of-OSX-partition)/System
rm -rf /Volumes/(name-of-OSX-partition)/Library/Receipts

Then quit Terminal and follow the installation on the DVD.

When you first install, those 2 buttons say "Customize" and "Install".

If you click the "Customize" button, then the buttons will say "Easy Install" and "Install". Easy Install just toggles you back to the window where you no longer see the Customize window. It just installs default checked packages - something you do not want to do.

If you have already installed like I did when I took the picture, then the "Install" button changes to "Upgrade" so you can install packages you did not install the first time.

"Easy Install" means you don't have a Mac on your machine before, and you want to install a fresh Mac on your machine.

"Upgrade" means the DVD detected your system have a Mac and you want to upgrade it.

By the way, what Rammjet tell you to do is to delete both your /System and /Library/Receipt folders

Hope that helps...

Guys I did what Rammjet told me to do.... I'm running now 10.4.8., writing from it.

But unlike on 10.4.6. I have GMA950 problems.

On 10.4.6. I didn't checked any 900 or 950 package to install, and graphics was runing out of box.

On 10.4.8. situation is different.... Didn't checked any 900 or 950 package, gfx is working but cannot change monitor resolution other than 1024x768. QI, CI both working but with "appleintel915.kext" error every time when system booted.

What I did... I installed additionaly 900gma package and now I can play with other resolutions but no QI, CI or GL :(

I tried to add 950gma package too but no go.

any ideas ?

thx again

Well I will answer myself this time...

As I read thru forums I can understand that there is not a good support for intel gma950 gfx in 10.4.8.

So I'm back on 10.4.6., everything works perfectly (2ch stereo audio with little fix, other than that out of the box),

only damn Photoshop CS3 beta want's 10.4.8
