Did you try -s or -x options at boot?
I just tried both, and it seems as though I'm getting the dreaded 'still waiting for root device' error that forced me to install with VMWare in the first place... I thought if I could install it then it'd be fine, but I guess not.

Any suggestions? This is probably a common problem with a wide-range of causes, but I'd still really like some help... Thank you.

I've got my HDD plugged in as Master on IDE 1. I also tried IDE 2.

edit: In fact, I've tried every jumper setting in every IDE position, and I get the same result.

That is your processor not the chipset, the chipset is the maker of the NorthBridge and SouthBridge (if it has) of your MotherBoard.

The chipset handle memory, disks, devices.

See this Wikipedia article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Northbridge_(computing)

It is important to know which is, then we can tell you which driver/kext you can add or modify.

could anyone help me then?

i have the same problem i can install in VMWare but when it comes to native i just get a load of writing mentioning ACPI Drivers and the computer telling me to restart.

Please help.

I see you need to know my chipset according to cpu-z it is "Intel 845GE" hope this is enough information.

Your case is different, rasmits has 'still waiting for root device' error (a kext needed to see the Disk Controller).

You have a Panic, which is caused by a several conditions, we need to see what the Panic Error says.

Hi all, wondering if anyone could help me with a simular problem I am having.

Rig:

Athlon X2 4200+ on Asus M2V motherboard with VIA chipset.

Nvidia 256mb graphics PCI-E x16

Maxtor 120gb hdd - Windows Xp with VMWare

Maxtor 80gb hdd - For Mac Tiger

When booting off the Jas 10.4.6 DVD i am faced with the restart message in 4 different languages, which im presuming is a kernel panic of some description. To get around it I installed through VMWare onto the harddrive with what seemed like sucess, as it ran in VMWare but not natitivly. It still hangs after trying to use all -x -s and -v startup modes. Kernel version is 8.4.1.

Any help or a point in the right direction would be great. Can create a seperate partition with mac through VMWare if any kexts need editing etc, but have no knowledge of mac or using terminal although will give anything a try to get it working.

Thanks in advance, Jamie.

i have a picture of what i get when i boot up native (it missed of a part of the top section,(my CPU does have SSE2,thats what was cut off) if you need it just ask.)

If you need anymore information please do not hesitate to ask.

Thankyou for you time! :thumbsdown_anim:

navrose can i ask what is the manufacturer of your pc (if there is one) and if you can visit Test ACPI and tell us what your ACPI Version is. As me and Matthew-N are trying to figure this out and we think it may be a compatability issue, and the sooner we diagnose the problem the sooner someone can begin to fix it.

Thanks
