I have 10.4.8 with the latest kernel installed, works wonderfully! So much faster than previous builds, an more stable, except for my monitor... 1600x1200 works fine at 75hz normally, but now, after I reboot my monitor says it's out of range. Before all I had to do was boot into safe mode, and reset it and it would be fine, but not any more.

Anyway, how do I set my refresh rate lower before I login? I'm still a little sketchy on the command line.

Also, I have the macvidia 1.0.8 driver installed, 6800GS, Samsung SyncMaster 997MB.

I learnt this trick from one of the forum members. All credits to him.

1. When you get the blank screen, press CTRL 2 and press enter. This opens the apple menu. Then using keyboard press down arrow 4 times and press enter. This opens system preferences.

2. Type "displays" (without quotes). Yes, you need to type "displays", not "display". This highlights display setting in the sys pref window. So, press enter to open it.

3. Press Tab to jump from the quicksearch field to the resolutions area. Press Up arrow once and wait. Else, press up arrow again. What we are doing is just changing the resolution to a lower resolution. Once you get dispay for the lesser resolution mode, then change refresh rate settings and try higher resolution.

All the best!

I tried that sequence and couldn't get it to work, but came up with my own:

Control-F2

<Enter>

Down-arrow (4 times)

<Enter>

type: displays

<Enter>

TAB (1 time)

Right-arrow 1 time

Left-arrow (1 time)

TAB (1 time)

Then press Up-arrow one step at a time (slowly) to change to lower resolutions.
