successfully installed macOS Monterey 12.7.6 on a Lenovo G500 with an Intel i7 Ivy Bridge processor and resolved the Wi-Fi issue with the Qualcomm Atheros AR9485 card. The installation runs smoothly without any problems on this laptop.

Installation Details

Laptop Specifications

• Model: Lenovo G500

• Processor: Intel i7 (Ivy Bridge)

• Integrated Graphics: Intel HD Graphics 4000

• Wi-Fi Card: Qualcomm Atheros AR9485

Installation Process

1. Creating the Bootable USB:

• Used the latest version of OpenCore as the bootloader.

• Configured the EFI folder using OCAT (OpenCore Auxiliary Tools).

• Adjusted boot-args and added a fake CPU ID for Ivy Bridge compatibility.

2. Graphics:

• Configured Intel HD Graphics 4000 in the config.plist with the necessary patches for stable performance without glitches.

3. Wi-Fi:

• The main challenge was getting the Qualcomm Atheros AR9485 card to work, as it is not natively supported in macOS.

• Installed a custom IO80211Family.kext, along with AirPortAtheros40.kext, to enable Wi-Fi functionality.

• Made additional adjustments to ensure stable wireless connectivity.

Results

• Performance: The system runs flawlessly without stability issues.

• Wi-Fi: The Qualcomm Atheros AR9485 card works perfectly after installing the custom kexts.

• Graphics: No rendering issues or screen flickering.

Conclusion

The installation of macOS Monterey 12.7.6 on the Lenovo G500 has been a success. The system is fully functional, including Wi-Fi, thanks to the custom kexts for the Atheros AR9485 card. This laptop is now a fully working Hackintosh.

If you have a Lenovo G500 and want to replicate this process, you can use this setup as a starting point for your installation.
