Guyfromorem
Hi. First of all I am a newbie to here but not to technology. I just need a few points to guide me in the right direction. Here is what my computer has. Dell Inspiron 9300 > Mainboard : Dell Inc. > Chipset : Intel i910/915PM > Processor : Intel Pentium M 730 @ 1600 MHz (not dual core) > Physical Memory : 1280 MB > Video Card : Nvidia Corp GeForce 6800 Go [NV41.8] > Hard Disk : FUJITSU (100 GB) > DVD-Rom Drive : HL-DT-ST CDRW/DVD GCC4244 > Network Card : Broadcom Corp BCM440x 100Base-TX Fast Ethernet > Network Card : Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network Connection > Operating System : Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition 5.01.2600 Service Pack 2 It is SSE2, but not SSE3. I used the MacOSX_10.4.6_GoatsecxDVD and then used JaS 10.4.8 SSE2 Intel to update to 10.4.8. I then installed macvidia drivers for my card. I have been noticing that there are alot of new releases here such as Nebukadnezar or Pacifist. I am just curious if I should format and try something new. Here are some of the problems I am having. I don't think my video card is is working perfectly. It does go to full resolution of 1440x900. In the MacOS system profiler it states that my video card is not QE/CI. Is there a fix for this? Imovie will start but none of the menus or buttons work. It is not functional. What is the cheapest wireless adapter that will work? Also, I am trying to install a similar setup on my buddy's computer but the semantec audio or whatever it is doesn't work. Is there a fix for this yet or if not what is the cheapest compatible sound card? Finally, Itunes doesn't work on the new 7.0.2 but I have read the problem about that. I guess I am stuck at 6.05 for now. Please let me know the names of wireless cards or soundcards or the names of the programs I need to install to help get me going. Thanks. thestevo
Well, I think you're in a waiting pattern for right now. As far as I know, SSE2 for the 10.4.8 kernel is not out of testing yet. JaS has not released a patch. That means you can't install 10.4.8, you aren't going to get QE/CI out of your card, and who knows what other benefits the new kernel offers for your system. I haven't looked up on the status of when the SSE2 patch will be coming out, but I'm sure its relatively close. When that comes out, I think you'll have pretty good functionality. Don't quote me on that, but glancing over your config, I think I've seen people with most of that working. Hope that helps, keep your eyes open for a patch, Stephen Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/35950-want-to-know-which-install-use-to-get-the-most-functionality/#findComment-256124 Share on other sites

jarodsix
There is going to be a new AMD/Intel SSE3/SSE2 10.4.8 install DVD soon, which will have one universal 8.8.1 kernel for all. You can wait for it. Or if you are a bit impatient , install whatever osx86 you have (they all have 8.4.1 kernel), and follow one of the guides to update (Genius bar or this forum). Or go to irc, get jas 10.4.8 combo upd semthexbeta9 and install exp6 sse2 on top.
