mynameisneo
Hi Everybody, I am totally new to the field of Mac though I have exploited Windows enough. I have downloaded Mac OS X Tiger in form of a ".dmg" file. When I extracted data from that file I got 5 discs out of it. I used Transmac 7.2 for it. Now I don't know how to burn those folders on a disc in order to make them bootable or use them either. Please help me out of this. Thanks in advance. Rammjet
Use Transmac or UltraISO to convert the DMG to an iso and burn the iso. Not the individual contents of the DMG. What was the name of the DMG? If it is 10.4.7, I know of only one person who got anything usable from that image. It is a compressed DMG and Transmac and other Windows/Linux utilities don't handle that image properly. There is a JaS 10.4.7 Repack that is a properly created iso of that DMG. If it is 10.4.1, don't bother. Apple changed OSX starting with 10.4.3 and as a result, most current apps won't run on 10.4.1. mynameisneo
Thanks for such a quick reply. The filename that I downloaded was "Mac OS X Tiger Install DVD". It said in the torrent file that the file was compiled from retail CDs. I am afraid as I couldn't get any version information in that file or from the related site. There is another difficulty. I have a question whether that ISO file converted from DMG file would work. Does it become bootable on Intel or AMD pc? Awaitng for reply. Rammjet
Yes, the 10.4.7 Repack works well and is the standard 10.4.7 iso. mynameisneo
Unfortunately it seems difficult to download that file again. I have got the UltraISO which is nicely opening the DMG file but showing only first CD where it has total 5 CDs. Again one question...:D Converting that image to one of the known formats in UltraISO is relatively easy but would it work for booting? Rammjet
Who knows. I don't recognize the package that you have. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/35808-utilize-dmg-files-to-install-mac-on-x86-based-pc/#findComment-254987 Share on other sites
gotoh
I think the package you have is the CD version of Tiger PPC version... just repacked in CD for those who don't have DVD drive in older G4... Just don't try to use these CDs in a PC, it won't work. Depending on your hardware (Intel or AMD) try to find the most suitable DVD image. The Wiki will help you find what's best for you if you check the HCL for latest OS X versions... You can use magiciso to burn dmg to cd or convert dmg file to iso image. http://www.magiciso.com/FAQ/FAQ0011.htm Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/35808-utilize-dmg-files-to-install-mac-on-x86-based-pc/#findComment-272301 Share on other sites
XweAponX
You can use magiciso to burn dmg to cd or convert dmg file to iso image. http://www.magiciso.com/FAQ/FAQ0011.htm Sorry for the bumping of an old thread... But I'm having this very problem with MACOSX.10.5 - I have a DMG file, and Toast seems to not want to burn it. I've tried converting to "DVD Master" using the Disk Manager tool, but changing the extension "CDR" to "ISO" on a PC does not work. I WAS able to burn most of the image with PowerISO- But the last part of the verify gives me a validation error. I see a couple of other methods mentioned herel I'll try those! I have to add this: I've been searching the MAC forums for more information on this. I ran across a post in another Mac forum where someone was asking similar questons, and two guys jumped the poster with words like "Wares" "Illegal" and all kinds of other abuse. Like NOT HELPFUL at all, and finally a decent moderator went in there and told the guy to use "Target Disk Mode" like the other guys should have told him about but were too busy nitpicking over a fleck of dust in this guy's eye. Warez Like heck! This a a copy of MY OSX.5 disk, it is a PPC/G4-5 OSX 10.5 disk! I backed it up like I always back up my OS Cd/DVDs but I made a DMG file, whereas I should have used Alcohol 120 on my PC and made an MDS file! I wasn't excpecting my original disk to fail! So I'm stuck with this DMG file, how can I get it back on DVD+-DL disk? Thanks!
