Well, I got OSX running on my VIA based AMD system, and my Inspiron 5100. Got to liking it, but wanted to have my full resolutions.

So I went out & bought an Intel D915GVWB mobo & Celly 2.6 proc.

After installs from 3 different DVD versions, I kept getting totally random panics @ boot. I mean they were too random & different to make any sense out of. And once in 15 reboots it would boot up just fine like nothing.

Ready to throw it out of the window, I somehow disconnected the CD-ROM by accident & the SOB booted like nothing. I kept rebooting it thinking this won't last...Then finally realized that the CD-ROM was unplugged. I plugged it back in, & sure 'nuff there go the panics again. (no CD in drive BTW if that's what you're thinking) I only have 1 IDE channel, so I'll have to figure something else out, but other than that all is well.

Anyways, the CD-ROM is actually an NEC ND-3520A DVD-/+RW

I'm using a NEC ND-3520AW DVD-/+RW drive and its perfect although I have upgraded the firmware cant remember the version other than its the latest. Possibly this could help you though

Hmm..Yeh. I didn't even think to check for firmware..I'll have to give it a shot...Thanks

The limitation of 1 IDE channel in some 915 boards really forces you to use SATA drives instead of PATA.

It is a bad idea to put a IDE harddrive and an optical drive on the same channel. It just slows everything down and you may burn out your harddrive if you didn't configure the jumpers correctly.

Yeh..I try to stay away from putting optical drives on the same cahnel as a HD, but can't avoid it sometimes. May just pick a IDE to SATA converter & plug & pray that it works on a CD-Rom. I got 3 open SATA chanels.
