Hi

I tried installing 10.4.8 amd see3 install dvd (10.4.8 test1 on piratebay) and right after the dvd boots up i get a kernel panic.

 

my system is a

ecs nforce3a

sempron 2800+ (has sse3)

512mb ddr

160gb pata hdd

 

the attached image has the exact kernel panic details (pmap_steal_memory related)

 

has anyone with an nforce3 chipset tried installing 10.4.8

 

 

Btw I get the same result if i use jas 10.4.7 dvd

Try using one of the newer kernels. I noticed that the one you have is from Nov 12. The more recent builds are more stable and also support SSE2 and AMD (so you know it will just work.) :D

Not the easiest thing to do to replace the kernel on a DVD.

 

Try using VMWare. Read the 10.4.8 page in my signature.
