ScientistBlah
So, first off, I'm using a Dell Dimension 4500, and I'm attempting to Dual Boot both Windows XP and Mac OS 10.4.7. I have installed it and am using the Darwin bootloader, and it boots up to the White Mac Startup screen with the apply in the middle, and the loading thing shows up, but it does nothing for a while, then all of the sudden a little circle with a cross through it pops up, like ya know, the no smoking symbol, but without the cigarette. I've left it for hours, and it still won't boot, I can boot into windows fine, but it just stays on the white startup screen for a while then gives me that picture. Does anyone know what is wrong and how I can fix it? sadiekiller
this time at the start of the boot, type in -v and then boot. then see at what point it stopes, record everything in the last 3 or 4 lines of code and put it down here. that will help us all know what is wrong. Rammjet
What packages did you choose in the Customize window during installation? http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?act...ost&id=4499 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/35604-installed-gets-to-white-mac-screen-wont-start-up/#findComment-253262 Share on other sites
ScientistBlah
I never saw that custom install window, I just installed whatever it installs by default. Also, I'll try out the -v thing, Thanks. Rammjet
You must choose packages during installation. The Customize button is left of the Install button. Reinstall and choose Intel Combo Update and choose Intel SSE2 or SSE3, not both, depending upon the capability of your processor. Choose other packages only if you are sure your computer can use them. ScientistBlah
Hey, did what ya said, I reinistalled and selected the right things, and this time it goes to darwin, but when I boot mac, it always does the diagnostic boot, it doesn't boot go to the white mac screen. And it never boots fully, it'll (sometimes, not always, which I find weird) do the diagnostics, and stop at this one line that says something about the login being ready, but it doesn't actually show anywhere to login? Rammjet
Are you sure you chose correctly between SSE2 and SSE3 (only one of them)? It has to be the package your processor is capable of. If you don't know, go to Windows and download and run CPU-Z. ScientistBlah
While installing, there was no choice in "Customize" to choose between SSE3 and SSE2. The only thing I checked were the things already checked(Printers, Languages and the other thing already checked(can't remember what it was)) and the Jas Update Thing or whatever. Rammjet
I gave you the picture of 10.4.7 back in posting #3. You have to click the little arrow beside JaS to show the various patches. Just like in the picture. ScientistBlah
Hey, thanks, everything worked and I'm posting this from Mac Os X. Anyways, everything seems to be working fine so far, but I still have one minor problem. This monitor is capable of 1600x1200 Resolution, but I can only selct up to 1024x768. How would I go about getting it so I can change my resolution to 1600x1200, or even 1280x1024 would be fine. ScientistBlah
Oh, another problem, no sound. I have a Creative SB Live! Card. Any ideas on how to get it working? Edit: Tried out MacVidia and it's working great, although I do get some like bullets of black and white(thats the best I could describe them) flying across the screen when I use 1600x1200, so I just dropped back down to the next lowest resolution and it works great.
