VBrandon
If I have one machine set up to capture/edit video and another for music production, what would be a good way to transfer files between them? Say, a musical piece I've created that I want to use in a video. If both machines have Firewire or USB 2, can those be used for rapid data transmission between machines? If so, how would it be done? Is there more to it than simply running a cable between machines? The reasons for doing this are if the video machine is rendering, I can still be working on recording, and also so I can use the DVD burners in one machine for everything. Thanks for all input. oilfan04
USB 2.0 can be used, but I think you need a USB hub to pull it off (as in an actual data transfer hub). I'm not too sure if you can connect both computers directly together via USB. Your other alternative is (if you have ethernet cards installed on both machines) to simply buy a crossover cable and connect them directly that way. Either way, you'd be looking at networking the drives and getting both computers to actually see (and "talk to") eachother. TheND
I've been using sharing over my network, with MacDrive. My XP box downloads torrents non-stop, then I drag and drop over to my Mac. My KVM switch sucks, but the idea is there Though, recently, I have to reboot after finishing a torrent or the xp copy dialog starts at 2 min. and ends up jumping to over an hour! Another (more complicated) way is FTP from one box to the other (seems to work better for me.) Anyone have a better idea for sharing between OS X and XP? asap18
if you had gigabit ethernet in each with a cat6 crossover cable, the transfers would be very speedy. trav1085
I use a memory key. It's only 128MB but you can easily get a 1GB or more one for under $100. Unless your talking huge files. GBK.Xscape
yea home network is the best way, crossover cable is easier and cheaper. you can get a crossover cable at radio shack for like $10 and then just connect the two computers together through the ethernet and voila!
