ThriftLover
Ever since upgrading to macOS Ventura 13.1, my 4K monitor default for display resolution has changed to 1920x1080 as shown in the picture and my apple logo at desktop login is now x2 larger. I don't know if it was the update that caused this but is there a way to change it back to 3840x2160?   1 Quote Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/355072-how-to-change-default-resolution/ Share on other sites
Planet X
Also for me my Loginscreen resolution has changed to kind of Full HD after upgrade to Ventura 13.1. After sign on my desktop returns at 3008x1692 what I have setup as resolution before. I really hope that this can be reset somehow. Thanks, but unfortunately resetting nvram doesn't resolve the issue I am having. It seems that default resolution is set in macOS. My older macOS drivers have 3840x2160 as a default resolution still. 1 Quote Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/355072-how-to-change-default-resolution/#findComment-2798956 Share on other sites

Slice
@ThriftLover What screen resolution do you have at the bootloader time? It influences on default screen resolution at OS time. Planet X
I have done a reinstallation to Ventura 13.0.1 and my Lockscreen was back to normal size. Also the Default resolution has been 3840 x 2160. After update to 13.1 my Default resolution has been set to 1920 x 1080 and my Lockscreen is too big for My Avatar and Password field. Â Before update from 13.0.1 to 13.1Â Â After update two 13.1 Â There has to be more people with that issue? Â Is there any way to change that Default resolution? Please help. But I even switched my RX 5700 XT with a RX 6600 XT for a test and it made no difference. Also Reinstalled macOS 13.0.1 and I had my Default resolution back set to 3840 x 2160. The update to 13.1 set it back to  Full HD and that's my lock screen resolution at this moment. I really don't like that. I will now try playing with resolution apps, but that won't be able to switch my Lockscreen resolution I think. miliuco
@Planet X I don't see anything strange in your config.plist. No more ideas 😕 Quote Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/355072-how-to-change-default-resolution/#findComment-2799123 Share on other sites

Planet X
I have fixed it myself. Add a HDMI cable to your graphics card. Switch to it and set everything to expected resolution etc. Plug off the DP cable and switch the PC off. Start Computer with HDMI plugged in. Resolution was alright. Switch off PC. Disconnect HDMI and connect DP cable again. Turn on PC again. Everything is alright now. Rebooted again and the problem seems to be solved.  And after another reboot it was back. The solution would be using HDMI may be. Has DP oppotunities against HDMI?  Edit: Also HDMI only will fall back to Full HD as Loginscreen. So still searching for a solution to have 3840 x 2160 as Default resolution back in Monitor settings. Edited December 22, 2022 by Planet X HDMI no solution as well 1 Quote Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/355072-how-to-change-default-resolution/#findComment-2799168 Share on other sites
miliuco
@Planet X DP usually works fine on macOS. It’s my display connection with 4k resolution ok. Not know why it doesn’t work on your machine. Quote Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/355072-how-to-change-default-resolution/#findComment-2799172 Share on other sites

Not know why it doesn’t work on your machine. My screen is working great and it does remember my setup resolution 3008x1692 after login. Only the Loginscreen has changed to Full HD after starting the PC. Which does look weird b.t.w. And because of that I have found that the default resolution has changed from macOS Ventura 13.1. And I'm not the only one I have already seen. When I lock my screen and unlock it again it appears in usual resolution as always has been before the upgrade to 13.1. I need to wait for a fix from Apple it seems. 1 Quote Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/355072-how-to-change-default-resolution/#findComment-2799208 Share on other sites
Planet X
When I power off my monitor al the lock screen and power it on again the lock screen does appear in correct resolution immediately. This is so weird. I really hope this will be fixed again in an upcoming release. Otherwise if someone knows how to hack it somehow? Where is that Default resolution stored in a plist file? surenmunoo
I also have the same issues as OP and I am using a 5k monitor, Samsung 49inch curved. The fix I found to using DP cable was installed an app called SwitchResX Installer.app.zipSwitchResX. Now my display works on every reboot and shows properly. Ventura, after 13.1 broke DP cable for me. HDMI works properly though.
