I need the help from a math wizard as I'm bad at math

I'm in the process of building an air cannon (spudgun) and I'm not sure if I will use a CO2 tank to fill the air chamber or use a 12v compressor, the cost is about the same. The 12v portable compressor can only fill about 10 car tires before the battery is dead. The CO2 tank can fill the camber faster then the a compressor but if I have to keep filling the tank often then I will go for a compressor.

I need to figure out how many shots I can get from a tank and I don't know how to do the math. All I know is 1 gram of CO2 produces about HALF a litre of gas at atmospheric pressure

The air camber will be a 36" x 4" PVC pipe that will be pressurized to 100PSI

The tank is a 5lb CO2 rated at 1800PSI

If you need more info let me know

PV=nRT

failing that, go read up on basic chemistry

id stick with the air compressor because when using co2 it's pressure varies because of temp. and pressure due to the co2 is actually liquid when in the tank. also the constant use and filling a spudgun will use lots of pressure and reloading witch intern freezes up the tank annd thus gets less pressure. that is why paintballers are switching to nitrogen (compressed air, 70% of our air is nitrogen). in that id stick to air compressor, its cheaper also.

Thanks for the link but the math is too confusing for me :sorcerer: My last math class was in grade 8 and that was about 25 years ago so it's a little over my head.

I did not give that any thought, I will be firing the cannon every couple of minutes. I did some more reading on those portable compressors and they will not do the job ether. From what I can figure is I will only get about 7 to 10 shots before the battery is dead. I have decided to go with a good quality manual floor pump, I found one that will fill a car tire to 100PSI in 10 pumps. So it should fill my air chamber in 7 to 8 pumps, plus it's a lot cheaper then a tank or compressor:)
