gateway500 Posted December 6, 2006 Share Posted December 6, 2006 Hi,I am a new user and i think that you will probably figure this out very quickly,but i just don't see what's wrong. I have a gateway 500s,at least that's what it says on the back-any way,i had it working w/ os 10.4.1 and windows xp home sp2,and one day,i came home and went to turn it on,all it did was light up the power button and beep three times ,i have asked about this elsewhere,but they say it's a memory problem,but i tested the memory in my ancient HP Brio-733mhz PIII,and it worked,i took the memory out of the hp put it back in,it still beeped.I have no idea what went wrong,i did not change anything,other than installing toast,but that was 3 days before. White Macbook 2.00 Core duo,512mb ram,superdrive,300GB7200rpm HD.(main machine),HP Brio BA410-Crappy machine-80 gm hd,256 ram,52X24X52 cdrw,733 PIII only using this because macbook is at apple getting the wrist rest replaced (discoloration problem),and dead Gateway 500s 2X20 GB maxtor HDD-1 w/ win xp,one w/ 10.4.1-unknown boot issues. gateway500 Posted December 6, 2006 Author Share Posted December 6, 2006 http://www.pchell.com/hardware/beepcodes.shtml I am not sure what bios,and i do not know how to check without it showing on screen,all i ever saw was "Gateway" with the little black and white box,if i tried to get into setup,it said comos battery low and just turned off.also, i don't know if this helps anyone, but if i hold down the insert button as i press the power button,it will flash the gateway screen for about a second,then the power light turns orange,what does this mean,sorry if i sound stupid,but a friend gave the computer to me,it was his dad's and it had 1,000+ viruses on it and would not boot,and he didn't have any restore cds,so he just gave up.i got it and loaded xp home without any probs,and tried to load osx on it, it worked for about a month,and this happened.I am not sure if osx had anything to do with it,because my old hp laptop worked fine w/it. It was a HP Pavilion DV1510us,i sold it because i sat on it on accident and the lcd cracked,and i didn't feel like dealing with it,that is when i got my macbook.
